Man in custody after shooting at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino kills 2, injures several, officials say

Two people killed, at least seven injured in shooting, Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú says

MAVERICK COUNTY, Texas – A person is in custody following a shooting at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass that left two people dead and several others injured, according to the Eagle Pass Police Department.

The shooting happened around midnight Sunday in the 700 block of Lucky Eagle Drive, near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Eagle Pass police said the person wanted in connection with the shooting was captured in Wilson County hours after the shooting, in coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, according to a Facebook post.

The suspect has been identified as Keryan Jones, 34, by a Wilson County Sheriff’s public information officer in a phone interview with KSAT.

Jones is currently in Stockdale, which is about 40 miles southeast of San Antonio and 180 miles from the casino.

Eagle Pass police said the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department is making arrangements to extradite Jones back to Eagle Pass in Maverick County.

Suspect captured in Wilson County after pursuit

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said Jones was located following a pursuit that began after an attempted traffic stop by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers near a Circle K in Stockdale.

DPS troopers discharged their firearms to stop Jones’ vehicle, which the sheriff’s office said was partially disabled but continued fleeing.

Wilson County deputies joined the pursuit on State Highway 123 and Farm-to-Market 1357.

Jones was taken into custody in the 1000 block of FM 1347 after a “successful PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver and Taser deployment,” the sheriff’s office said.

According to a media release from Eagle Pass police, the capture was confirmed through vehicle tracking via license plate recognition (LPR) systems, which allowed the Texas Department of Public Safety to find the suspect.

A weapon was recovered, and no DPS troopers were injured, Eagle Pass police said.

2 killed, 5 injured in shooting at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, Maverick County Judge says

In a phone interview, Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú told KSAT that seven people were injured, and of those injured, two had been killed.

“We are heartbroken about the violence that occurred at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino,” a spokesperson from Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas said in a statement, in part.

The casino said the five injured people were taken to medical facilities in Eagle Pass and San Antonio.

Cantú said a black Nissan Frontier truck was believed to be involved in the shooting.

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office, Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department, Texas Rangers from the Texas Department of Public Safety, FBI, U.S. Border Patrol and the Eagle Pass Police Department responded to the shooting.

“Our law enforcement is in full gear, we are ensuring what is number one, the assurance of safety in our community to assure that everything is completely under control,” Cantú told KSAT.

Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino is located approximately 149 miles southwest of San Antonio.

Cantú released a new statement around 6 a.m. on Facebook regarding the shooting:

“I just left the Command Center regarding the unfortunate incident that occurred last night. I want to reassure our community that all law enforcement agencies are working jointly, in unison with our local, state, and federal partners, to carry out a non-stop investigation into this situation.

“Tribal Police, Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Eagle Pass Police Department, Texas Rangers, Border Patrol and FBI Law Enforcement agencies are working round-the-clock to ensure the safety of our community and, above all, to bring justice against the individual responsible for this crime.

“At this moment, our first responsibility is to lift up the victims and their families in prayer during these most difficult times. More than anything, I ask that we come together to pray for the families of the two victims whose lives were tragically lost in this heinous act.”

The man accused of killing three people after opening fire at a packed dockside restaurant went the CMT Music Awards with Kellie Pickler before filing an unfounded lawsuit against the singer.

Nigel Edge, 39, was taken into custody Saturday night after he allegedly shot at the American Fish Company restaurant, a popular tourist hotspot, in Southport, North Carolina around 9.30pm.

Edge, who changed his name from Sean DeBevoise in 2023, was ‘ecstatic’ to be by the American Idol star’s side in 2012 as he was pictured next to her on the red carpet in his Marine uniform.

‘I am ecstatic about being here at the CMT Music Awards with Kellie,’ he told Taste of Country at the time, adding that he was even happier ‘to consider a friend.’

‘She is the most sincere person I know. She is an angel,’ he added.

All of his kind words about Pickler soon went out the window in February 2025 when the veteran sued the singer, claiming that she attempted to poison him, a ‘straight man,’ during the awards show.

Edge claimed Pickler offered him a ‘poisoned’ glass of Jim Beam whiskey that he ‘refrained from drinking’ because he didn’t want to be ill, the lawsuit stated.

He went on to say that the ‘hate crime’ was orchestrated by Pickler who ‘attempted to murder the plaintiff in accordance with a white supremacist pedophile plan laid out in this discovery…,’ the filing reviewed by the Daily Mail read.
