Why does it have to be ego? Folks leave jobs everyday for a myriad of reasons. Some because their job doesn't value them, doesn't pay what they thing they deserve or they have better offers.

Speak for yourself, I've made more than that since the late 90's & I've left jobs for other jobs. A salary doesn't always mean happiness or you're actually being paid what you're worth. I've had jobs where that 6 figures shrunk because I was working long hours, I've had jobs where my performance and skill ended up out pacing what they were willing to offer in a raise & other compensation.
