Brazil boss tells Neymar to turn down Chelsea chance

Brazil coach Mano Menezes has cautioned Neymar against joining Chelsea and says the teenager will benefit from continuing his education with Santos.

It is believed Chelsea have failed with a £24 million offer for the forward, who recently scored on his senior debut for the Brazilian national side. However, Neymar does have a release clause set in his contract to the value of £29.6 million.

Chelsea's pursuit of the player has angered Santos, who have threatened to report the Premier League club to FIFA for what they described as "harassment" - a charge that has been strenuously denied by Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck.

It is expected that Neymar will decide this week whether he views a move to Stamford Bridgge as the correct step for his career, but Menezes hopes the 18-year-old remains in his home country at present.

Menezes said: "All understand Neymar's situation and what must be going on in his mind. But thinking about Brazilian football, his remaining with Santos would be beneficial. The team is on top and it would very good for Neymar to say with them for a longer period."

Though it is understood that Chelsea will redouble their efforts to sign Neymar and that he is interested in a move to the Premier League, the forward says he will take into account the view of his national boss and does not wish to be a substitute if he does move to London.

"I don't know if I will stay or depart but I don't wish to leave a championship team like Santos to be placed on the reserve team of Chelsea or any other foreign team," Neymar said. "It would be better to stay. I will take into consideration Mano's advice before making my decision."

He has to go

dont fall for the bullshit

Hopefully they don't Anderson the kid. One of my techs is Brazilian and he fears that they'll turn him into the quintessential Premier League workhorse, and minimize his ginga. Somewhere in this equation, whether it be family, friends, agents, etc... someone's gotta be in his ear about this.

If that's the case, I wouldn't leave either.

Yeah, but Chelsea will offer him a nice pound note!!!!:dunno:

Same thing I was thinking...would be a good move for Chelsea but maybe not the best career choice for Neymar...i dont think Chelsea is the best fit for him..

He needs to stay....He isnt ready.

Hes too small, and will be eaten alive being loaned to FC Nowhere from Chelsea. Too many Young Brazillians start to show a little promise, and then go to Europe where they go crazy. Jo, Adriano, Afonso Alves, and pre dunga Fabiano come to mind right off the top of my head. Even "little pele" Robinho didnt last.

He needs to stay until at least Copa América.

Agreed. In all honesty, I don't see him playing in the Premier League. Not to say that he can't, cause I think he can play anywhere, but I can see him flourishing in La Liga or Serie A before the Premiership. The sheer pace, and strength of the Premier League, coupled with his build suggests that he'd get bodied day in and day out in England.

Granted he's only 18 years old so he's got time to hit the weights, but for now, I can see him continuing on elsewhere.

If anywhere, he could play in North London. :smh:

That is the issue. I see that cat on TV here all the time. I dont think he comes in at his listed weight.

I dont think Neymar is more than 130 pounds soaking wet with sand in his pockets. He is extremely thin. He needs a year to put a few pounds on..not too much though.

Chiyo mentioned Fabiano, Robinho, etc. Neymar is lightyears ahead of where Robinho was at 18. Actually Neymar was a better place last year than Robinho is now. I dont think that is the issue. He does shit that Robinho and Fabiano could only dream of doing on the pitch

Who says he wouldnt fall victim to the same traps as them though? Football is more than talent alone:lol::lol:

Watching him against the US a few days back had me waiting until he got that ball to see what kinda magic he was gon pull. He looks fluid with the ball. As if he and the ball were one.

I hope he goes to Chelsea..it would be fun to watch him play in the premier league... hopefully Chelsea makes good use of him and not keep him benched.

What the fuck is up with Robinho... is City gonna use him, sell him or what???

I remember before Mark Hughes departed as City boss, Robinho said he didn't want to go back to the blue half of Manchester. (Rightfuly so...) But this all stemmed from the here say of satisfying one Craig Bellamy. As Hughes departed though, so was the need to have Bellamy as a #1.

Now Roberto Mancini is in the process of having talks with him to sort his future out. Coincedently, Bellamy leaves to Cardiff leaving Mancini with a hole to fill at LF, but then enters the question of signing one David Silva...

But I'd still put my money on Robinho rejoining Shitty to solidify that attack.

God knows they need it.

I think that Neymar will get plenty of time on the pitch in SW6 as we have tried unsuccessfully to bring Pato to the bridge every transfer window since Carlo has arrived. We need some creativity/pace in the midfield. As I have said before, I would have much preferred Balotelli but the fact that Lukaku is certain to come later makes me feel better. As for the cost, I have a feeling that investors might be involved a la the deal that brought Mascherano and Tevez to England from Corinthians....

Robinho was always overhyped abroad. However, Brazilians were never calling him the next Pele seriously... being that he played for Santos and Santos was in need of a star at that point..it was goodfor marketing though since that is Pele land...... Robinho was quick and had a good right leg. However, he doesnt nearly have the speed, vision, scoring ability with both feet (and head), passing ability, etc that Neymar has. If you can neutralize his speed, Robinho can easily be contained....that has always been obvious...he has always had those flaws and still does.

Outside of his frail size, Neymar has no flaws in his game.

As a Chelsea fan, i'm on the fence about this one. The amount of money is outrageous to pay for an unproven (in Europe at least) 18 year old, but at the same time, if the kid lives up to expectation the price will be looked back at as a steal. I'm also a little hesitant b/c of some brazilians track records in the EPL. The only thing that makes me feel better about it is Carlo Anceloti's track record w/brazilians. Overall if Mr. Abromovich wants to spend the money i'm not opposed...fingers crossed:D. Hell i wouldn't even be opposed to buying and loaning him back to Santos for the year, and then a short loan to another EPL team to get some experience the following year. I don't see him as an everyday player w/the squad as it is now, but I could envision him up top pairing w/Lukaka 2 years from now:yes:.

The prospect of Lukaku, Sturridge and potentially Neymar is exciting...

Update:

Santos offer new deal to Chelsea target Neymar

neymarcelebbrazil20100810_275x155.jpg

Santos have reportedly offered a new deal to striker Neymar in an attempt to hold off interest from Chelsea.

Chelsea have already had bids rejected for the Brazilian and it was reported on Wednesday that they would be making a final offer of £25 million.

News of Santos offering the 18-year-old a new contract would suggest they hope to tie him to the club and end interest from the Premier League. But if the player turns down the deal then it is almost certain they would have to sell.

Santos president Alvaro Luis De Oliveira was quoted as saying: "We have offered the boy a new contract - here you can earn a lot as a true idol in Brazil.

"I hope that before the weekend his agent will give us a definitive answer but we are not pressing. I do not know what will happen - the decision is in Neymar's hands now."

Neymar has already been warned by several high profile names, including Pele and Brazil coach Mano Menezes, that he should remain with Santos at this stage of his footballing development.
