David Robinson, 34, was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole plus 15 additional years on Tuesday
The Georgia man who fatally shot his life-long friend just a few hours after being released from prison in 2017 is now set to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
The last time 34-year-old David Robinson was set free, he shot Jalal Ross-Beyah to death in a strip club parking lot.
The 29-year-old Ross-Beyah, a father and entrepreneur, took Robinson to Peaches of Atlanta, a strip club in the the 700 block of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, to celebrate Robinson's newfound freedom the day he finished serving an eight year prison sentence for a 2007 armed robbery.
Authorities said the two men had an argument in Ross-Beyah's vehicle before Robinson grabbed Ross-Beyah's handgun and opened fire, shooting the victim multiple times, according to Fox 5 Atlanta and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
What the former friends were arguing about remains a mystery.
'After pulling into the parking lot that evening, Robinson grabbed Ross-Beyah’s handgun and began firing for no apparent reason. Ross-Beyah was struck [two] times, once in the neck and once above his eye, and he died immediately,' the Fulton County District Attorney's office said in a Tuesday press release.
'There is no indication as to what caused Robinson to grab his childhood friend’s weapon and begin firing,' the office noted.
Jalal Ross-Beyah,29, a father and entrepreneur, took Robinson to the strip club to celebrate Robinson's newfound freedom the day the 34-year-old finished serving an eight year prison sentence for a 2007 armed robbery
After killing Ross-Beyah, Robinson tried to shoot another friend who was with the late 29-year-old before attempting to climb a fence and escape the scene.
Security guards apprehended and held him until police arrived. He was back in handcuffs and later jail within hours.
On Tuesday, Fulton County Superior Court Senior Judge Jerry W. Baxter sentenced Robinson to life without the possibility of parole plus an additional 15 years for charges including murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The life-long criminal had six previous felony convictions for aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and the aforementioned armed robbery. In 2013, during his previous time in prison, Robinson received an added conviction for giving or possessing illegal items.
He is being held without bond in Fulton County Jail before his next scheduled court appearance at 9.30am on October 30.
