Damn they STFU quick![]()
wasn't shit they could say... that was a landmine..
Heard a fuckin PIN drop. YT's were like wtf bro!
The looks on their faces after the 2 minute mark
they couldnt even think of ONE thing to say to defend themselveslmaooooo
I dont agree with how he was making race issues sound like its only an american thing ... the U.K blacks, from what I hear, are just as bad
but it was funny nonetheless
why would they be defending themselves ? They too are just directors.

In regards to actors, the British seem to have less of an issue in casting minorities. Not sure how directors, producers, and writers fair.

they would be defending the industry and that they couldn't do..
that is a question for studio heads to answer. those who deny the opportunity that McQueen was speaking too.
would be no different than them asking how 5 black men could spray a park and shoot a baby......how could you defend something that you have nothing to do with......they'd have to ask a gangbanger

the one part of his diatribe spoke to directors and why so few black and thats a studio head issue but the other part spoke to casting and thats a joint director/studio issue. Those white directors sitting around there are all guilty of what was he was talking about to some degree greater or lesser. And they were unwilling to offer any insight because its the old (white) boys network.
But they should have told the truth...which is: White people make movies with white people in mind.
Its not racist its natural. When i write a story the hero or protagonist is black..why because i'm black and i want to see myself as the hero of the story.
There was a big controversy about the hbo show "girls" it was highly acclaimed and people said it spoke to a generation..and the biggest knock on it was how it was ridiculous that a show set in new york would feature any people of color. And so in an effort to shut up the critics a black character was added as a brief love interest to one of the girls. The reality is the show is about a girl and her inner circle of friends and confidants and not surprising theyre all white. Even in big ass electic ass new york white people's inner circle tends to stay white just as black stay black and latino stays latino. What at issue is if hbo was pitched a show like girls but with an all black or latino cast they most likely would have passed on it. Why because that show wouldn't be highly acclaimed an even if it was no one would say it speaks to a generation nor would it be highly rated.
And why would that be?? The answer to that question answers all of steve mcqueen questions.

None of those directors was in the least bit uncomfortable. That's a tactic I've seen white people use against non-whites when matters of race come up.
Absolute silence. Let the non-white person rattle off a list of justified critiques and facts while remaining stone-faced while in the back of their minds, "Whatever n*gger. It doesn't matter what you say, you're still a n*gger."
It's called "White Silence In Racial Discussions". Dr. Joy DeGruy brings this up a lot in her talks.
===== From the so-called White Privilege Conference =====
This paper analyzes a common dynamic in interracial discussions on race: white silence. Using whiteness theory as the frame, I explicate the common white rationales for silence in discussions of race and challenge each of these rationales from an anti-racist framework. These rationales include: “It’s just my personality—I rarely talk in groups”; “Everyone has already said what I was thinking”; “I don’t know much about race, so I will just listen”; “I don’t feel safe / don’t want to be attacked, so I am staying quiet”; “I am trying to be careful not to dominate the discussion”; “I don’t want to be misunderstood / say the wrong thing / offend anybody”; and “I already know all this.” I argue that regardless of the rationale for white silence in discussions of race, if it is not strategically enacted from an anti-racist framework, it functions to maintain white power and privilege and must be challenged. - Robin DiAngelo

he actually told you what he mean't then gave you an example to relate it to yourself. Kinda like if a random white guy asked you about gang culture but you have no idea about it, you would say go ask a gang member not me.
