It's about black PEOPLE, not just black men, fool. What's so emasculating about giving props to everyone who's deserving? Especially on a board dedicated to black WOMEN.

Swing and a miss. Had this thread been about Lynn Nottage, you wouldn't have mention Mr. Robinson.

Major props!!! Dude is a regular on Keith Oberrman's Countdown and really knows his shit. He's witty, intelligent, and he usually sees right through the bullshit of the Repugs/Conservatives/White Supremist.

Blunt...post threads about other pulitzer prize winners in YOUR OWN SEPARATE thread...

otherwise while aknowledged that these women deserve shine for their achievement the thread is to recognize a SPECIFIC person..

and don't derail the thread by arguing what you THINK the thread is about...IF you respect what eugene robinson has done then post a props and move on.

Drugs, Guns and a Reality Check

By Eugene Robinson
Friday, March 27, 2009; Page A17

It's an indictment of our fact-averse political culture that a statement of the blindingly obvious could sound so revolutionary. "Our insatiable demand for illegal drugs fuels the drug trade," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told reporters on her plane Wednesday as she flew to Mexico for an official visit. "Our inability to prevent weapons from being illegally smuggled across the border . . . causes the deaths of police, of soldiers and civilians."

Post columnist Eugene Robinson wins Pulitzer Prize

Washington Business Journal

Eugene Robinson of The Washington Post won the Pulitzer Prize for commentary Monday, but the newspaper's lone award represented a much smaller haul than the six it earned a year ago.

Robinson received journalism's top prize for his columns about the presidential campaign of Barack Obama, the first African-American to win the nation's top job. Robinson, a former foreign correspondent and assistant managing editor for the paper, also is black.

After winning the award, Robinson told colleagues gathered in the Post newsroom that he was particularly pleased to have won for his coverage of "the biggest political event of my lifetime, and one that has personal meaning for me," according to a story on the Post's Web site.

Sometimes, a President Must Slap Back
Eugene Robinson

WASHINGTON -- It's hard to argue with the results thus far from President Obama's "no drama" approach to campaigning and governing, but I think he should learn to chew a little scenery when the occasion demands. Theatricality is one of the weapons in any leader's arsenal, and a well-timed glower or growl can have more impact than a sheaf of position papers.

Obama's critics are upset that at the recent Summit of the Americas, held in Trinidad and Tobago, he treated his fellow leaders from around the hemisphere as peers. Obama's collegial attitude was, indeed, a break from tradition -- and was long overdue. Nothing would have been gained by barking orders at our neighbors and reinforcing the old image of insufferable yanqui arrogance.

There were a couple of moments at the summit, however, when Obama would have been right to throw off a little heat.

One was his encounter with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, whose public persona is the polar opposite of Obama's. Chavez is all theater, all the time. He made the most of his introduction to the new American leader, enfolding him in an all-smiles handshake and presenting him with a book that harshly indicts the long, painful history of U.S. intervention in Latin America.
