Much respect to this beautiful young lady
this is why its important for black youth to see and read about themselves in science faction tales.
Because many times science fiction influences science fact.
If Mae Jamison hadn't seen a fictional black female astronaut she may not have been inspired to become a REAL astronaut.
Quite frankely this is a major factor in why white men are doing amazing things with technology because theyre constantly feeding their imagination generatiom after generation...

I heard both of these clowns on the Tavis Smiley Show. The establishment seems to back them, which means there is something wrong with them.
It disgusts the hell out of me when we can't celebrate our people but instead accuse them of being "selected" by magical white people. Mae Jemison and Neil deGrasse Tyson busted hump to become prolific scientists. They didn't sit around on their ass on the internet all day pissing on their own people's achievements.

On December 5th, TIFF will present the final Trek Talks event as part of its months long celebration of the 50th anniversary of Star Trek.
Astronaut, physician, and chemical engineer Dr. Mae Jemison (STS-47) will deliver a keynote address on the interplay between arts and science, and how sci-fi as a genre can carve out a space for often-excluded voices.
Dr. Jemison has the distinction of being the first African-American woman to travel into space when she flew on the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992, and also happens to be the first real astronaut ever to appear on Star Trek. She played Lieutenant Palmer in the episode “Second Chances” in season six of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
In addition to being a passionate advocate of science and technology education since leaving NASA, Jemison was recently involved in the 100 Year Starship study, a project designed to help foster the research needed for a manned interstellar mission.
