*Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Final via (Mac App Store)*

INSTALLATION

*Non-clean install
If you dont want to do a clean install just mount this image and run the installer.

*Clean install
If you want to do a clean install there are two methods:

•What works definetly:
-Make a complete backup of your running SL or Leopard system to an external HDD using CCC or SuperDuper. (You should have one anyways so this will save you some time)
-Boot from that backup
-Erase your internal HDD with HDUtil
-Mount the image and run the installer and let it do a clean install onto the disk you just wiped

•What should work as well:
-Just do this in case you dont have a bootable backup.
-Use HDUtil to copy the image onto a thumb drive or burn it to dvd
-Boot your Mac as usual from the DVD/thumb drive
-Wipe your disk
-Install
which one is better Non-clean install or clean install

I did the Non-clean install method with no issues. Plus I didn't have to back up any of my programs, apps, etc...

anybody else notice the system runs a lot smoother now and after install i got about 8 more gigs of space oh and wow while i was typing this i noticed its a spell check now. No more misspelled words on BGOL

Really? I use Chrome for my browser and I've always had spell check

Apple Introduces ‘Lion Recovery’

In a knowledge base article posted on the Support section of its website, Apple reveals that OS X Lion includes a new feature called Recovery that includes all of the tools users need to reinstall Lion, repair their disk, and even restore from a Time Machine backup without requiring physical media.

The latest Mac OS from Apple includes a built-in set of utilities in the Recovery HD - a separate partition created as Lion is installed the first time.

If something goes wrong and users need to revert back to the computer's previous working state, they can simply restart their Mac and hold down the Command key and the R key (Command-R) and access the "Mac OS X Utilities" application where they can reinstall OS X Lion.

To do so, users will need an Internet connection (at least until August when Lion USB thumb drives are scheduled for launch).

If the Recovery HD (Command-R method above) doesn't work, the new Mac models introduced yesterday can use the Lion Internet Recovery feature.

“Lion Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's Servers. The system runs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to ensure there are no hardware issues,” Apple explains.

“Lion Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, enter the WPA passphrase,” the Mac maker elaborates.

“Next, Lion Internet Recovery will download and start from a Recovery HD image. From there, you are offered all the same utilities and functions described above,” adds Apple.

This method of reinstalling OS X Lion from also requires an Internet connection.

Lion Recovery also requires that the user enables DHCP on their chosen Wi-Fi or ethernet network.

Customers who bought Lion from the Mac App Store will be prompted to enter their Apple ID and password.

Man.. Apple included so many features it will be months before we discover them all. The spell check (and AUTO correct) within the browser is great... and some people have the nerve to say its not worth the upgrade. As Ocho would say, "child please".

I'm confused on what you guys mean when you say the spell check feature is new. Are you talking about in Safari? Because I use Chrome and I've always had it while using it to browse the web.

Sorry it's not *new* as if Safari didn't have it, but its better in the sense that when you type a word wrong it automatically gives you a list of suggestions below the word (if there are multiple options), otherwise it just automatically corrects the spelling for you. It also automatically accents and capitalizes words that should be. Also, it's built into the OS not the browser.

I wouldn't know, I use different browsers for specific things. I use firefox for BGOL and casual web browsing, Safari for school and work... why? I don't know, it's pretty much innate at this point

Info For Producers Dont upgrade you will lose support for some of your vsti instruments I learned the hard way :angry::angry: No more Hypersonic 2 or Propellerhead recycle... Power pc applications no longer supported :smh:

good post fellas I'm tempted to dl this but since it's O.S I think I'm going to purchase and some of my audio and other apps aren't compatible yet

Hackinations: 5 (or 6) really good Lion tweaks

Lion. We love the OS. We hate a few tiny details. Here are five extremely handy Lion tweaks that can improve your day-to-day use. Enable each by typing the supplied commands into Terminal.

1. Turn off those #*%(ing zooming windows Launch Safari or TextEdit and then hit Command-N a few times. Do you see how the new windows fly or "zoom" into place? You can disable that with this elegant tweak from TUAW reader Ryan Hauk. First, open Terminal and type the following:

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAutomaticWindowAnimationsEnabled -bool NO

Finally, quit and restart whatever app you're looking to de-zoomify. You do not have to set the defaults more than once, but the apps won't pick up the new setting until their next launch.

2. Enable key autorepeat. You won't be able to use those cool iOS-inspired, press-hold-and-select-an-accented-character feature, but you'll get back thissssssssssssssssss. Courtesy of belchak.com.

defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false

Interestingly, you can set this preference on a per-application basis. So you can enable key-repeat for, say, TextEdit but not for Safari by using e.g. com.apple.TextEdit instead of the global domain.

3. Make your ~/Library folder visible. This removes its hidden flag, so you don't have to keep using the option-key from the Finder's Go menu.

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

4. Disable spelling correction. When you want to be able to refer to "nethack" or "Megs" without it being autocorrected to "netback" and "Mess," you can turn this off from the command line -- or, if you prefer, get somewhat more granular control in the Text section of the Language & Text system preference pane (uncheck 'Correct spelling automatically').

defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAutomaticSpellingCorrectionEnabled -bool NO

5. Mandate scrollbars. Let scrollbars become a permanent part of your windowing experience.

defaults write -g AppleShowScrollBars -string Always

6. Add back the Finder's size information. (Via TUAW reader 1TallTXn) Open a Finder Window and use Command-/. Presto

Have you found more good prefs? Let us know in the comments! Some good places to check are the Preferences folders (global and local), the HIToolbox, and Core Services.

Has anyone done a "clean" install vice upgrade?

Not yet. After I get some projects out of the way I'm going to buy Lion from the App Store and do a clean install. It'll take me all day because of my MAMP configuration. I'm also hoping the version of VMWare I have still works with 10.7.

How are the benchmarks compared to your Mac Pro?

I wish I had saved my Mac Pro benchmarks.. I don't have them and sold it (Mac Pro).. that's why I copped the iMac. I posted the iMac benchmarks above ^ I checked geek bench site and the 2007 Mac Pro averages about 5555 in benchmarks.

Most likely not. What release version of VMWare do you have?

I want to cop an iMac after my next MacBook purchase. Let me know how it does crunching those RAW files, because I'll be waiting in the cut for the new 5D Mark III to drop...
