Looking for motorcycle suggestions

Okay, here is your chance to weigh in. I am looking to purchase a motorcycle. While I love to look at custom Harleys, choppers and cruisers, I don't think that style is for me. I am also not looking for the other extreme, meaning doing street racing at 180+ on a 'Busa. And before someone tries to be funny, I'm not into Goldwings, trikes or Vespas :smh:

I'm looking for something to ride on the weekend, that has some performance and can handle the twisties, but also not beat me up since the roads here in southeast Michigan are sh*t. While I'm not looking to ride across country, I do want to be comfortable for a day of riding. Many years ago I had a Ducati, but that thing was great on a track but not fun on the street. Plus it cost a fortune to maintain.

I know there have to be some 'ride-das' up in here. Suggestions?

i'm looking at getting a bike for purely economical reasons...

i want to get a crusier or something like that since i damned near killed myself on a crotch rocket...

come with a two year wheel to wheel and everything and they are on sale in my hood for about $3200

I'm about to buy my first bike. Great question to ask. I've been told to buy a Ducati monster. or a triumph speed triple. A dude at work also told me to look into the new Ninja 250. They say it get 70npg but top speed it only 90and a 2008 only cost $3500 Hope it helps. I'm still doing research myself

Sounds like you're not trying to really drag a knee or get too crazy, like you don't want an all out tourer/sport tourer... you still want some racebike DNA but you don't need the twitchness and crazy geometry and hard suspension set-up.

Sounds like you need a standard or naked!

I would recommend:

Ducati Monster - Ducs quality and reliability have improved 10x over. Plus the Duc Monster when Fuel Injected back in the late 90's making it very nice.

Yamaha FZ - Basically a softened up YZF for everyday riding. Good mix or power, sport, rideability.

Suzuki Bandit/SV - The Bandit is a great mix of touring and sport. I rented one and took it for a 500 mile ride last season. Very happy with what it did, but not quite my style.

Triumph Speed Triple - Don't enough about the bike, but I've seen quite a few here in D.C. and I heard good things about them.

Me personally, since I've already got the Sportbike - for just laid back highway riding and the occasional SLOW to MEDIUM PACED twisty run, I've been thinking about getting one of these:

Yamaha Midnight Warrior Road Star ... this shit just looks mean.

Seems like you want something that you have the option of going fast, but is still reasonable. If that's the case, then I would go with a Honda CBR 600 or a Suzuki GSXR. Remember 600cc.

insurance 250.00 a month for a GSXR 600... i said fuck it :smh:

i still may grab something though.... fuck cars right now

Damn. What kinda record do you have or what the hell do you drive?

For the OP, I would get a streetbike. I guess which one depends on you. You probably don't wanna be 350 lbs on a 600cc or 120 lbs on a ZX-14 (not that it can't be done). I have a CBR600F4i and it has enough power for me and looks clean as well. I also have it insurued w/ State Farm for 250/yr. Whatever you get, be safe and respect the bike.

Since I don't know what type of budget you were looking at..........

Based on your criteria, I would recommend a Buell. It's going to be rather difficult to get something that is comfortable for a FULL DAY OF RIDING..and not be a cruiser. So I say go with a Buell Streetbike....

Hold on...Do you know how to ride? And I don't mean just been on your friends bike a few times. Your going to end up fucking yourself up if you start out to fast or big for your own good. Start small. Ride on your skill level and don't try to do what them other nigga's are doing on their bikes. Do you.

the Ninja zx6r is superior for what you ask. none of the bikes are cheap though. The cruisers nor the superbikes are as good on gas as people think. The cbr is a good choice for shure but not as fast as the 6r. it really depends on what your prefrence is. The prices are close as well.

damn 250? I got a gsxr1000 and I pay less then that. What is your driving record like playa?

my bad for the delay... my driving record is clean no points, no nothing... actually the exact quote was 220.00 month with progressive... i was like hell no... I got a Harley, and my insurance is 450.00 the whole year, so i still cant see why the sport bike is so high.... maybe it's because i live in DC VA MD area... and these guys on bikes are crazy:yes:

A VERY good choice is the Triumph street triple which is the naked version of the Daytona 675 also an incrdible bike. The 675 spanks all the 600cc pretty much every time they r all tested and it has almost the Master bike comp every year its been out.The 675 and street triple make 90% of their torque from as low as 3500-4000 rpm. The R6 for example does not equal the 675's torque till 10000 rpm The speed triple is a monster, torque EVERYWHERE and its a awsome real world bike from commuting to twisties. There you go

I live in DC and have Triumph Daytona 675, its a great bike, speed, power, and handling. If your into a more conservative style the Triumph Speed Triple or Street Triple are good choices. I am biased to Triumph though. The Buell bikes are fun choices as well, I have ridden the Blast it was ok, but not quick enough for my taste. Whatever you get, go take the Motorcycle safety course, it preps you mentally for riding, gets you a discount on your insurance and may exempt you from your motorcycle license tests in your state.

I have this exact bike and color scheme. Down with Rice Eaters, Respect the Euro Mafia.

That Triumph 675 is cool. The Buell looks like an interesting choice as well. What are your thoughts on the XB12R

I started on a 2004 R6, rode that for 3 seasons and then went up to a 2006 CBR 1000RR. What I will say, is if you go with a street bike, start at 600, 750 at the most. Anyone who says you will outgrow it in 3 months is full of shit. 600's are way more than enough for a beginner. All I can say is definitely take the MSF course and don't be trying to do stoppies and wheelies on the first day.

I just started riding and I paid 2500 for a ninja 500. I could have gotten it for a little cheaper but I wanted to win my ebay bid. If you trying to pick it up from the A I'm ready to let it go and get something bigger.

Btw depending on how big you are a 250 can do a little more than 90. I'm 175 lbs and I've done 120 on my 500 and it still had more to put out.

I have a 2007 Yamaha R6 and pay $620 for the whole year and I am with Progressive..... You think that since you already own a Harley it would be cheaper...but $220 a month is straight up robbery

I ride a GSXR 750 but I'm getting a 1000 soon. I was torn between the Busa and 1000 but after riding both I'm going with the 1000.
For a best of both worlds bike (cruiser & Sport) I would go with the Suzuki M109:
