I am currently working on getting a law introduced that will limit the amount of visibility that employers can see when it involves a criminal history. Right now if you have a felony on your record, some applications ask 5 years, 7 years or dont even specify number of years since your conviction. Then when they see the word felony they dont even consider your application. This is a form of discrimination because if you have served your time you should have a clean slate as far as employment is concerned. There are some circumstances which have to be taken under consideration.
I am meeting with some Senators next month that will at least listen to my thoughts. I am asking, what do you consider fair for a person who committed a felony, served out their sentence and parole or probation. When would you consider them to have a clean slate?
I respect your opinions.
