
A 41-year-old man was killed after he crashed a stolen Honda Civic into a building in Brooklyn on Monday morning, September 8, 2025. The impact of the collision was so severe that it split the car in half.
Incident details:
- Time and location: The crash occurred around 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Avenue J in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn.
- Theft: Police determined that the man stole the Honda Civic, which had been left running and unattended, from an area about a mile and a half away at Regent Place and Flatbush Avenue. The vehicle was a for-hire car with a city Taxi and Limousine Commission license plate.
- Crash: The driver sped south on Flatbush Avenue, lost control, jumped the curb, and slammed into a building. Surveillance video captured the moment of impact.
- Victim: The 41-year-old driver was ejected from the car and found lying in the roadway. He was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
- Aftermath: No other injuries were reported. City building officials inspected the structure the car hit and deemed it safe. The crash left a significant amount of debris scattered across the intersection.
