Little boy who had his Mariano Rivera autographed baseball hat stolen will receive another signed cap from the Yankees
Jeffery Keiser, 7, who had won tickets to a Yankees game through the Daily News, had his hat, given to him by his now deceased great-grandmother and signed by retiring great, Mariano Rivera, stolen by a heartless crook. Now, the Bronx Bombers are giving the boy another signed cap.
Jeffery can smile after Yanks said they will replace his signed Mariano Rivera cap.
It was a save worthy of Mariano Rivera.
A brokenhearted Queens kid whose Mo-signed Yankees cap was swiped by a cruel thief will receive an autographed replacement courtesy of the Bronx Bombers.
“Tell them I love them!” a thrilled Jeffery Keiser said Saturday after learning about the quick relief to his pinstriped grief. “I’m so excited.”
The second-grader was devastated in August when the cap was swiped by a sticky-fingered fan as Jeffery and his mother visited Yankee Stadium with tickets won in a Daily News giveaway.
The future Hall of Fame closer had signed the cap just minutes earlier for the delighted little boy, whose favorite player is the retiring right-hander.
Jeffery Keiser was inconsolable after his beloved Yanks cap signed by Mariano Rivera was stolen.
Rivera’s last game is Sunday in Houston against the Astros.
The hat was close to the tiny die-hard’s heart even before Rivera signed it: Jeffery’s great-grandmother, who died just one week earlier, gave him the cap as a gift. The cap-snatcher swooped in after the boy’s mom placed the beloved hat on an adjoining seat and turned to grab her camera for a picture.
Jeffery wept for two hours after the heartless crook made off with his cap before the Yankees-Blue Jays game.
But the 7-year-old was beaming after learning that his favorite team would send along a new hat signed by the greatest reliever in baseball history.
“That was nice of them,” said his mother, Georgette Siciliano.
“I appreciate it. It’s such a nice surprise. We didn’t expect this.”
