My current job puts whole depts out of work using machine learning.
from security, customer care, marketing, advertising, finance etc....
Let me give you an example.
customer chat transcripts are now being used to determine topics, classify those topics into groups, determine the customer sentiment and either upsell that customer in realtime or target that customer for other services.
i'm doing some side projects where i'm building website visitor profiles, using machine learning on their search history and order history and feeding them personalized recommendations in realtime.
the same shit netflix and amazon does but for retailers.
and that is just a slice
collaborative consumption economies, google that
mofos need to hit them books, go to coursera and learn
