The neighbor who claims they "heard gunshots" while at home lives in an apartment complex TWO BLOCKS away! :dunno:
According to the AJC newspaper, the majority of the partygoers who got arrested at 2am Sunday did not even receive bond information until 5pm Monday. So they spent 39 consecutive hours - including New Year's Eve - IN JAIL! Some say they lost jobs. Come the fuck on - this is some BULLSHIT!

Party went to pot: 70 people are arrested on marijuana charges at Georgia New Year's Eve lingerie party
  • About 70 people were arrested at a lingerie themed party just after 2am on New Year's day
  • All of the people rounded up were charged with under an ounce of marijuana
  • If the arrests had been made in Atlanta- just 40 miles away, they would have been ticketed instead of arrested

About 70 people at a Christmas-themed lingerie party have been arrested and charged with marijuana possession in Georgia.

Cartersville Police responded to a 911 call about shots fired at the Morgan Square apartments just after 2am on New Year's day.

A neighbor who had arrived home from a movie was alerted to a sound that he believed was gunshots, but party goers said were fireworks.

Police arrived to a jam packed house. Over scanners police commented on how many people were on the porch, and as they walked around back they noted 'there are quite a few people inside the house.'

They were then faced with the daunting task of getting everyone inside the packed home- outside as they started arrested people on pot charges.

A parent to one of those rounded up by police complained to local WGRZ that had the arrests happened in Atlanta - just 40 miles to the south- the arrestees would have received a $75 ticket - instead of being placed behind bars.

The flyer advertised a 21st birthday party with Jell-O shots, beer pong, and drunk/ strip twister.

More charges could be added, but for now the partygoers that were rounded up have been placed in Bartow County Jail and so far are facing charges for possession of marijuana under one ounce.

It's not clear how much pot police found, but at least 70 people were charged.

Lt. M.E. Bettikofer with Cartersville police says the investigation is ongoing.

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Police in Cartersville arrested 70 people early Sunday morning after a lingerie-themed birthday party devolved into a drug investigation.

Authorities said officers responded to a shots fired call at the Morgan Square apartments on Cain Drive at 2:18 a.m., Sunday. A witness that 11Alive's Ryan Kruger spoke to said that he had just gotten back from a movie when he heard what sounded like gun shots. Someone called 911 to report the noise, drawing police to the area.

When officers arrived to the site of the party, just blocks from the apartment complex, they found several people both inside and outside the party. That's when they found evidence leading to the drug investigation and arrests.

According to a man who identified himself as a parent of one of subjects arrested, and a flyer given to 11Alive, the party was a lingerie-pajama, 21st birthday party. Folks at the party allege that the sounds were fireworks, not gunfire.

The same parent 11Alive spoke to pointed out that had the arrests happened just 40 miles south, within the city of Atlanta, everyone would have gotten off with a $75 fine. Instead, most of those arrested will spend their New Year's Eve in the Bartow County Jail facing charges for possession of marijuana under 1 oz.

According to Cartersville Police Lt. M.E. Betttikofer, the police investigation is presently ongoing.

Additional information was not immediately available.

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Authorities have released more information into what led to the arrests of more than 70 people at a New Year's weekend lingerie-themed birthday party.

According to Cartersville officials, the city's police department responded to Cain Drive in the early morning hours of New Year's Eve after getting reports of shots being fired.

When officers got there, they were met with the smell of marijuana and several people trying to run from the area. After entering the home, officers said they saw weed in plain view and confiscated a semi-automatic weapon. Because of the presence of drugs, a gun and the sheer number of people inside, Cartersville Police notified the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force to assist.

The drug task force got a search warrant and recovered two weapons (one reportedly stolen from Detroit, Mich.), individually-wrapped packages of marijuana and several smoking devices from the first floor. Drug agents also found individually-wrapped packages of cocaine and other paraphernalia on several people.

Authorities arrested all the people inside the home and charged them with possession of marijuana of less than 1 oz because police said it was within reach or control of everyone present. Police transported everyone to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office for booking. The ages of those arrested ranged from 15 to 31.

After reports of the arrests, multiple parents of those in custody contacted 11Alive to express frustration at the slow process of arrestees being released. Officials explained that the booking process for incoming inmates takes time, even for those with valid I.D., but is made more complicated if I.D. is unavailable or if inmates refuse to identify themselves.
