The wait is nearly over: LeVar Burton begins his stint as a “Jeopardy!” guest host on Monday, July 26.

Following a passionate social media campaign led by fans, the “Reading Rainbow” and “Star Trek” star was announced as part of the show’s final lineup of guest hosts in April. “Jeopardy!” has utilized a slew of guest hosts for its 37th season — among them Aaron Rodgers, Robin Roberts, Mayim Bialik, Anderson Cooper and more — following the death of longtime host Alex Trebek in November 2020.

“Our goal has been to present a wide variety of guest hosts with different skill sets and backgrounds on our path to finding a permanent host,” said “Jeopardy!” executive producer Mike Richards when announcing Burton as a guest host. “Our passionate fans are telling us what they like, and we are listening. All of the guest hosts have brought individualism, energy and an authentic love of our show to each of their episodes. We look forward to sharing the rest of the season with our viewers.”

Burton will host “Jeopardy!” from July 26 to 30, followed by David Faber (Aug. 2-6) and Joe Buck (Aug. 9-13). Burton has become the frontrunner for many “Jeopardy!” fans to take over the hosting position, with a Change.org petition now having garnered over 257,000 signatures.

In an interview with “Jeopardy!” posted on Saturday, Burton reflected on the opportunity to guest host, saying he was nervous to take the stage.

“I was more than nervous, I was absolutely petrified,” Burton said. “And I don’t know that that feeling ever went away.”

Or have the contestants got worse?

Honestly,
I haven't watched much "JEOPARDY" since my GrandFather passed some years ago.
It was one of his favorite programs we would watch together whenever I visited.

But DAMN if last night's contestants weren't a major downgrade from the days of Ken Jennings.

These contestants were just odd, off, and had no personality.
And they were getting points for "half answers" and using the wrong pronouns.

Other than that,
Burton had a fair start.
Hope the rest of the week he gets more comfortable.

The thing is, the "they" you speak of is actually him! Mike Richards is one of the Executive Producers of Jeopardy, so this dude was in charge of finding a new host and picked himself. Now I will say, a lot of the people hyping up Levar Burton as the host must not have actually watched when he was host because honestly he didn't do a great job. He admitted himself that he was nervous and unfortunately for the second half of the season they've only given the guest hosts 1 week on air rather than two like previous hosts (i.e. Mike Richards). So Levar really didn't have enough time to settle in before his week was up.

The frontrunners for the job, based on performance should have been Ken Jennings, Buzzy Cohen, Mayim Bialik, and surprisingly Aaron Rogers. They all did a great job at bringing the same timing, authority, and fun to the show as Trebek. But the fix was in from the start and this Mike guy is polling well with white women somehow so, whatever.

I thought buzzy would have been the right move as a younger cat to try and have a youthful appeal for the show.
