Good Evening SOL. I know ya'll don't know me in here. I admit I'm a lurker. But I'm cumming out of my shell:) I just had to repost this album. Check it out ya'll. I'm not a huge Toya fan(from Destiny's Child). But this album is dope. I must give her respect 4 this drop. It's not scheduled for release until Aug 25th. Enjoy.

Does an artist of her limited stature really need 16 tracks and 60 minutes or so of music?? I miss two-sided vinyl with a modest 5 or 6 cuts on each side.

That's all good. But in this economy, I don't think more music hurts. I find that people want more if they have to pay for it these days. I'm just fortunate to have found it for free.

MORE rarely means better, especially if you're an artist who doesn't have enough GOOD material to fill out 60 minutes. Even big-time artists drown their CDs with too many filler tracks just because there's space to do so. Janet Jackson has done this too frequently. Keep it short and sweet. It's easier on the listener. Some of the all-time greatest albums ran 35 minutes.

Save your breath... trust me :smh:

But I saw the link on the main board and downloaded. I really enjoyed her last CD! She was always my favorite in DC..

No argument from me on how you started this reply. But more doesn't equate to bad material that fills a 45-60 minute album either. Truly, it depends on the listener and what their needs and wants are. For you short and sweet works. Cool. And once again, your right. SOME of the all-time greatest albums run 35 minutes, but there are also SOME all-time great albums that have run 45-60 minutes. I know you know that. You're fingers are just itching on the keyboard.

Her first CD had a few good tracks, but I like this one better over all. Sorry it missed ya. To each his own.;)

Right, because the issue of OVER-long CDs (some even running 70 or 80 mins.) is something I just happened to come up with on a whim and really hasn't been a major criticism from reviewers and the public for the last decade or so. Just because there's more space available on discs nowadays doesn't mean you have to use it all.

Sorry if I just happened to notice that LeToya's album runs long in proportion to the "lightweight" status of her material and the level of her success. Just an observation, and hardly an outrageous one.

Shit, even the standard edition of Beyonce's last multi-Platinum album only had 12 tracks and ran 41 mins.

I got this the other day off the main board, but 1 of the files didnt unpack ... Gotta look it over & redownload...

I have to agree w/ chocolatelava i appreciate a longer GOOD cd. it was more acceptable in the past, when studio time was more expensive and equipment so expensive to have shorter cds, but now with the lesser cost artist should make more music. But it should also be good music. Shorter cds dont mean more good music either.

I need to think of the last cd i got with 14+ tracks that was good.

One...I have to say that your avatar looks goods (if that's you)?
Two...I had a debate about the length of CDs with one of my industry buddies. He says the standard is something like 12 songs, normally 10 songs. They base it off of the amount they're looking to get back. So if there's 10 songs on an album they're looking at $10 ($1 per song) anything over that lessens the amount, it's a waste in their eyes. They look at it as you're giving music away. They will allow you to do 16 but that's the max because they'll be looking for $16 to come back (note: amounts are before retail mark-ups and fake public consumer sale mark-downs). Remember how you use to go to the store and see the latest new album on sale for $9.99 (cassette) and $10.99 (CD) then after a week or two it's marked up to $12.99 (cassette) and $16.99 (CD)....that's why.

But I don't agree with you.

I'm not aware of albums being priced based on the number of songs. That's kinda silly. Obviously an extremely brief CD with 4 songs or so will be priced differently (like an EP from the the old days of vinyl) but ANYthing that's categorized as an ALBUM by the artist or the record company (whether it has 20 songs or 8) will be priced in the standard way.

The problem with long single-disc CDs is the inclusion of too much filler and the likelihood of boredom setting in before you can finish it (in one sitting). Few artists (if any) can hold someone's attention for over 40 mins, nevermind 60-80 mins.
