DALLAS — Las Vegas has been chosen as the host city for Super Bowl LVIII in 2024 pending final approval from owners, the Review-Journal has learned, according to sources familiar with the process. An official announcement is expected on Wednesday when the league’s owners meet in Dallas.

The NFL and the Raiders declined to comment on Monday.

The original hosting duties for Super Bowl LVIII were awarded to New Orleans. But when the NFL recently added a 17th game to its schedule, the end of the regular season was pushed ahead by a week. As a result, the 2024 season-ending championship game was moved from Feb. 4 to Feb. 11, and created a conflict with New Orleans’ annual Mardi Gras celebration.

New Orleans surrendered Super Bowl LVIII in favor of assuming the assignment for Super Bowl LIX in 2025, when Super Bowl Sunday would be Feb. 9 and not be in conflict with Mardi Gras.

That opened the door for Las Vegas, which has quickly emerged as one of the NFL’s bright new markets after the arrival of the Raiders in 2020 and the coinciding opening of Allegiant Stadium.

Las Vegas put together an ambitious and multi-leveled plan to convince NFL owners of its viability to accommodate the biggest yearly sporting event in North America. The city’s reputation as one of the entertainment capitals of the world coupled with the necessary hotel, convention center and activation space were convincing arguments in luring the event to Southern Nevada.

Las Vegas has quickly emerged as one of the NFL’s go-to markets for big events. In addition to Super Bowl LVIII, Las Vegas is also scheduled to host the Pro Bowl on Feb. 6 and the NFL draft April 28-30.

Hosting a Super Bowl makes good on a pledge made by the Raiders and the NFL that Nevada stepping up as a partner in the building of Allegiant Stadium would transform Las Vegas into one of the top destinations for big-time sports and entertainment events.

Nevada pitched in $750 million to the $2 billion project, with the state’s financing coming from revenue generated by a 0.88 percent local hotel occupancy room tax.

This season’s Super Bowl will be played on Feb. 13 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The 2023 game will be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

I really like that stadium in LV, and it's cool that it matches the Raiders colors but speaking as a New Orleans resident and knowing how much this city needs tourism and conventions and events, I'm wondering how much that 17th game is going to affect New Orleans as it will push the season further into February.

Mardi Gras will be "late" in 2022 because it will fall on March 1st but in 2024 it will fall on February 13 and in 2027 it will fall on February 9th. So earlier or mid-February Mardi Gras might cause the 17 game season to work against us.

That's because 2025 has a late Mardi Gras that occurs on March 4th, so it worked in our favor to wait a year but as more teams get new stadiums, the competition for a Super Bowl gets tighter, and if New Orleans has to step out of the competition due to a conflict with Mardi Gras, that puts us at a disadvantage.

New stadium cities usually get a Super Bowl, this shit is going to be crazy af in Vegas. I remember All Star weekend in Vegas, that shit was NUTS!
A lot of Casinos CEO said it was a bad idea in 2007. All star weekend caused a lot of trouble from the articles I've read. But in the age of covid I'm sure they will need money flowing into Vegas.

I never got the point of going to All star weekend or Super Bowl when you don't have tickets to the actual official events. 2015 NYC all star weekend was full of Bamas hitting up the clubs and lounges that whole week. My gym is a block away from MSG and it was a shit show, I avoided Penn Hotel and used a differ route when going home.

Bro, when I tell you that women will be everywhere, believe me. I'm not talking about your pretty local women. I'm talking about the baddest of the bad showing up by train, car, plane, horse and buggy.

Imagine some old school debauchery meeting up with older school Sodom and Gomorrah type shit. Guys with money will be there and the women know it. It's a tricks and whores playground... What ever your vice, it's there and then some.

If you go, don't take a drink that's offered to you. Keep your large bills in your socks, and sleep with your shit under your pillow.

That natural grass field is pure shit.
It's no better than the shit field at Oakland Coliseum.
By halftime it's torn to shreds.
They really need to go to field turf

Most players prefer natural grass to prevent injuries. Ravens invested money when they went back to natural grass. Regardless what people say field turf doesn't play like natural grass. The only benefit to field turf is the lack of wear and tear. But those rubber filling are obnoxious as fuck and during the summers the black filling absorbs heat. I've seen dudes get a heat stroke playing on field turf. Plus the fields are a hotbed for germs because most public parks don't clean them regularly compared to pro and D1 schools.

Unfortunate, but I can definitely understand the dilemma... The NBA All-Star game fell during Mardi Gras in 2017 and that shit was a too crowded for the city... Fun, but just too many bodies... SB brings way more and it's just not a good mix...
