again when I see that "Bird steals the ball" in game 5 of the eastern conference finals when Bird stole Zeke's pass for Laimbeer...hit DJ on the cut and Dj hit that layup... I almost had a fucking heart attack as a kid watching that

casual fans today generally HAVE NO CLUE about basketball that predates the hand-check era.
if you watch some of the clips carefully, look at the D being played on the perimeter. watch how difficult even simple entry passes become when the opponent can D the PG up 30' from the basket with a hand and/or forearm on you.
the pendulum swung too far; not only was hand checking virtually banished, but they doubly penalize the D player by tacking on a PF.
