larry bird - inspired by rollie fingaz

there isn't a single player in today's NBA that can be described in the same way coach jones speaks of larry bird in this video.

this collection of clips is more the fanboy type variety, but i thought a couple of them made it worth posting.

watch for the chicago bulls v. new york knicks and boston celtics v. portland trailblazers

Man, cacs would kill for a great white hope like this again

The ones they got now aint SHIT compared to Larry Bird, hell most of the brothas in the NBA aint either

Dude was the truth, shame I not even born or very young when he was doing his thing

these kids today don't know the meaning of clutch or killer instinct.

no clue.

cranrab I wish the Larry to Dirk comparisons would stop

cuz Dirk is not very clutch and the killer instinct is not there

he would be whining his ass off if he played back in the day

DTR,

casual fans today generally HAVE NO CLUE about basketball that predates the hand-check era.

if you watch some of the clips carefully, look at the D being played on the perimeter. watch how difficult even simple entry passes become when the opponent can D the PG up 30' from the basket with a hand and/or forearm on you.

the pendulum swung too far; not only was hand checking virtually banished, but they doubly penalize the D player by tacking on a PF.

Gonna come back and watch these later... I know I'm going to do this  again when I see that "Bird steals the ball" in game 5 of the eastern conference finals when Bird stole Zeke's pass for Laimbeer...hit DJ on the cut and Dj hit that layup... I almost had a fucking heart attack as a kid watching that

BTW..Bird was that dude. There are very few small forwards in the history of the game that can compare..

:yes::yes:

Killer instinct isn't taking the last shot and hitting it 15 percent of the time to win the game.. Killer instant is not even allowing it to get to that point..Killer instinct is stepping on your opponents throat in the 3rd quarter so that you are icing the knees 3 minutes into the 4th like the 85-86 Celtics

And Thats why you can never truly compare JORDAN,BIRD,OR MAGIC to anyone in the current era. They played no blood, no foul shit back in the 80's
Fans today have no idea what real defense is.

Thank you. This footage makes me laugh. Bird's basketball IQ and fundamentals would make him a killer in this era.
