Laptop recommendations under $700

Looking to buy a laptop for my father. All he's going to do is surf the net (prolly looking at homegrown), some minor business record keeping etc, listening to music, word processing. As far as brand reliability do you guys approve of HP? Also for some reason I've always veered away from Toshiba - am I being unfair? Please don't recommend Dell as my experience with them has scarred me for life. Any other brands I should look at or avoid? Anyone buy a laptop in this price point and have a recommendation? Thanks

Best Buy had them on sale for $499, they were listed as a Intel i3/330m processor but Gateway fucked up and put i5/430m's in them, you can find them on ebay for less than $600, I picked up a brand new one and its a very nice unit.

Needless to say Gateway stopped production immediately.
