Laker's Lamar Odom Goes To Bench!!!

What a difference one-year and a NBA Championship make, viz-a-viz Los Angeles Laker forward Lamar Odom. When requested by Laker coach Phil Jackson(last season) to.."come off the bench" (and make room for new addition Pau Gasol at forward), Odom pitched a b...... . He, nevertheless, had one of his better seasons, and, argubly, made a major contribution to the Laker success.

This year Lamar VOLUNTEERED to return to the bench, making room for Gasol's returned to his old position.

A.I. could take a lesson, and learn how to be a 'team player', But it would probably be a waste.

this comment just seems like piling on.

allen iverson hasn't been playing for a HOF head coach in recent memory.

also, lamar odom still gets starters minutes coming "off the bench" for the fakers. the same could not be said in allen iverson's situation.

and finally, lamar odom knew that the starting squad would be OK now that the fakers' most important player has returned to the lineup.

Piling on? Nah. That would be too easy. Its justification. A.I. said as much with his "Man! Enough is enough" diatribe. That's Iverson's legacy.

Didn't he once play for Larry Brown... a HOF coach? I thought so.

Not to make this thread about him, but he really never gave it a chance with either team. But your point about the coach is definitely valid

The point about the coach is not really THAT valid...what should motivate a player is the fact that they are getting paid millions of dollars to play a damn game!!!! Coming from object poverty to multi-millionaire iconic status should be enough...it shouldn't matter if a joker is playing for Daffy Duck!! :smh:

100% disagree.

i'm sure you meant abject poverty.

but the reason why i disagree is because when young (and sometimes fatherless) players enter college and the professional ranks, having a mature and experienced coach helps immensely. having a young coach closer to their age doesn't always help.

if the player has a HOF coach that earned a championship ring as a player AND as a coach, those credentials can help diffuse a lot of issues.

I stand corrected, gotta spell check more...anyway, that works when a player is 18 an fresh out of freshman year in college, but once you get a degree of experience, there is a certain degree of appreciation and respect for yourself and your opportunity that should be developed. In AI's case (isn't it amazing how a thread about Lamar Odom flows into a discussion about AI???), he has had his share of quality coaches so there is at this point no excuse for him being the idiot he is concerning the game...:smh::smh:

the OP brought up allen iverson in his original post, so i consider it fair game.

i think your beliefs require too much presumption; particularly that a player's game/talent/attitude must necessarily appreciate over time.

not for nothing, but here are allen iverson's head coaches in order:

johnny davis
larry brown
randy ayers
chris ford
jim o'brien
maurice cheeks
george karl
michael curry
lionel hollins

he's definitely had a lot of young coaches. a lot of inexperienced coaches with career losing records. a lot of people who may have not been ready (or ill equipped) to handle a personality like allen iverson.

9 coaches in 14 NBA seasons?

not exactly a tim duncan/coach popovich relationship.

NOT blaming the head coaches at all, nor am i absolving allen iverson for his difficulties (real or perceived). but an experienced head coach with a proven record of success can inspire (and become the impetus for) better behavior from his/her players.

I feel you, I guess it does depend on the person. Me, in terms of my career, if the companies paying me right, I'll work for the owners 3 year old grandson!!:D

right, but that's part of the problem.

the public (sometimes correct, sometimes not) likes to project themselves onto people in the public eye.

in your case, you are projecting your work ethic and/or feelngs of loyalty into your expectations of allen iverson. but what if, for example, you chose the work ethic of the employee in the next office/cubicle over from you?

then maybe allen iverson just shows up for the paycheck and does his bare minimum to get by. or maybe allen iverson looks for his next gig on his current employer's dime.

dont ever compare Lamar to AI....I have been a laker fan since 6 yrs old. I am in LA. Lamar is such a head case gtfoh.

I didn't like A.I. for a long time because he is a jack, but that dude is dope. Lamar has never been 1/10 of the player A.I. has been so its a totally different story.

You don't see shaq old ass coming off the bench.

I am still mad at the clippers for not letting A.I. start. And they nigga they wanted him to "back up" has been hurt since game 2,lol.

Stupid fucks....I was gonna get some of them 7 dollar tickets, and see and Baron Davis have a shooting contest, they wouldn't pass to nobody, lol.

The bench needs to learn how to extend and hang on to a lead.

Unfortunately for them, they don't have any $$$ to spend to make that improvement. The team is set in the front court but their back court is a little weak.

Luckily for your team, they play in a weak conference so it shouldn't be too difficult for them to get back to the Finals
