In a groundbreaking development for professional sports, Dawn Staley is reportedly in contention for the New York Knicks head coaching job, potentially making history as the first female head coach in a major men’s professional sports league.

On Saturday (June 28), Knicks Fan TV reported that Staley had emerged as a candidate and is expected to interview with the franchise amid its ongoing search to replace former head coach Tom Thibodeau, who was dismissed following the Knicks’ 2024 season. Thibodeau had led the team for five seasons.

Staley’s résumé is among the most decorated in basketball. She has served as head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s team since 2008, leading them to three national championships and seven Final Four appearances.

Her reputation as a leader and tactician has placed her at the forefront of coaching excellence at both the collegiate and international levels.

Before her coaching career, Staley was a standout player at the University of Virginia, then spent eight seasons in the WNBA with the Charlotte Sting and Houston Comets.

She began her head coaching journey at Temple University, where she coached for eight seasons prior to joining South Carolina.

If hired, Staley would break a significant gender barrier in professional sports. While women like Becky Hammon, Teresa Weatherspoon, and Lindsey Harding have served in assistant coaching and developmental roles in the NBA, none have yet taken the helm of a men’s pro team.

Staley’s candidacy has already generated buzz across the basketball world, with fans and analysts alike lauding the Knicks for considering a coach of her caliber.

Her blend of player experience, championship pedigree, and proven leadership could signal a bold new era for the Knicks—and professional sports at large.

Dawn would be a SIGNIFICANT upgrade to that CAC.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting her as an 18 year old and it's great to see how far she's come.

She's one of the best minds in basketball and it's not the first time her name has been floated as an NBA coach.

I'm down for it being a life long Knicks fan since the Ewing days.

We've always been good just not good enough especially in the fourth and a few bad decisions and calls sealed our faith when it mattered.

If she can help make the team better so be it.
always been good? There were several years the bricks didn't even make the playoffs

Yall some sexiest ass niggas wtf, why would some random cac who never played be better than her?
Once again, Dr. Fiction / Dr. Tranny brings his sexuality into a thread about sports.

The posters already know you are full of shit because Coach Staley is so-called black, not Asian. You want nothing to do with her.

Hmm, I could swear I seen this in a movie with Whoppie Goldberg as the coach. Wonder why has it taken so long? Not really not sure why Tibbs was fired being so close to the finals but Dawn does have the pedigree and is worthy of a shot. I hope she takes it if it's offered to her and they pay her!!

Listen, nobody hates a cac more than me, but you're wrong.
1. Tibs DID play ball
2. This bulldagger bitch is MARRIED to a cac, so fuck her too
3. I ain't a Knick fan so, go ahead, HIRE the Dyke so they can KEEP being the laughing stock of the NBA
4. Mark Jackson should be the coach, not a cac lovin' butch from women's college basketball

Lol at still judging people's Blackness by who they marry. We been doing that since Frederick Douglass.

Dawn makes her mostly Black players graduation ratio a priority and gets them ready for the real world.

Cac uses players up till their bodies are destroyed as players and life after basketball.

But he's a man, so he must be a better choice than Dawn.

Or, Dawn is a woman so she can't lead men.

Let me know when Tibs makes a stand on racism

That's a bit harsh. I didn't know she was married to a white woman . I do wonder why Black lesbians tend to marry ugly ass white women :smh: This woman looks like her grandmother :puke:

That's some old, dry ass pussy to have to stick your mouth on forever

Hey, you can I have your opinions and I'll have mine, and that's ok. Not looking to convince you.
Yes, I judge people by who they Marry. Tells a LOT if you pay attention
If you feel comfortable being led by a gay black woman who eats cac pussy every night that's cool. I respect that, do you

My dad introduced me to her when I was a kid. She was shooting around at Connie Mack on 22nd Street. People around the way treat her like a regular person.

This is true. Coach Staley needs to stay in the women’s game, and if she does move up to the professional level, it will have to be the WNBA. That won’t happen though because she would take a massive pay cut where Becky Hammon is one of the highest paid coach in the WNBA at $1M a year.

Coach Staley would probably have to take a pay cut to move to the NBA as well so I doubt it happens. Nothing for her to prove and too much class to be part of the clown show in NYC.

If she plans on making the Knicks good I’m all against this… if she’s there to make history by being the first black female head coach of the nba and get free money and tank the Knicks I’m all in
