Winston Duke, who recently broke out as T’Challa’s ally M’Baku in Marvel’s multi-billion dollar grossing Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, is taking on the role of MMA legend Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson in Backyard Legend.

White Boy Rick scribe Andy Weiss is writing the screenplay about the Bahamian-born backyard brawler who rose from homelessness to mixed martial arts fame after his brutal backyard fights drew a huge YouTube audience. Kimbo Slice died suddenly in June 2016 at 42 from heart failure and a liver mass. Though he battled high blood pressure for years, Kimbo Slice insisted on boxing months before his death, winning a three-round heavyweight match against Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris at Bellator 149 in Houston. Before dying Kimbo Slice was scheduled to fight James Thompson in the main event Bellator 158 despite his family’s mixed emotions. They knew his health was ailing given his lack of energy in the Dada 5000 fight.

Duke and Michael Imber, Kimbo’s longtime friend, manager and employer, who will be prominently depicted in the picture (the role has yet to be cast), will also serve as EPs.

Glad someone is telling his story. Dana White and MMA in general never truly acknowledged what the guy did for the sport . And of course YouTube never acknowledged what he did for the platform. The guy was a phenomenon and deserves to be celebrated.

It needs to be told. Like @Amajorfucup said....he did a lot for MMA. Dana won't ever admit it or anyone in MMA won't admit but he brought a lot of attention to that sport. Hell including me. My first MMA match was him. And truth be told he did well for someone without much time learning MMA and his age. But no one will Admit that.

It absolutely needs to be told. And be told right. With credit and acknowledgement to the phenomenon he was and his impact on the sport and tube streaming platforms, youtube in particular.
