i'm holstering the sarcasm because i want somebody to give an HONEST, RATIONAL explanation of WHY IS IT EVERY SEASON FAKERS FANS are begging for an MVP caliber, franchise-type player?

last season it was kevin garnett. this season they're whining for jason kidd.

IF tobe was the all world player they allege, WHY do fakers fans keep demanding that mitch kupchak pull the trigger on these types of players?

when the 76ers added moses malone in 1982-83, julius erving had ALREADY taken the franchise to the NBA FINALS in 1977, 1980 and 1982. julius erving was a PROVEN commodity and needed the kareem killer to get over the hump.

tobe hasn't been able to reach the 50 win milestone.

when the fakers drafted earvin johnson in 1980, kareem abdul jabbar had ALREADY turned the franchise around. with kareem abdul jabbar the fakers went from a 30 win team to the WCF in only 2 seasons.

tobe hasn't helped the fakers past the 1st round of the playoffs.

so again, i ask: why do fakers fans insist on acquiring an MVP caliber, franchise-type player (like a jason kidd or kevin garnett) IF they allege they already have the best player in the game?

Well Cran Tobe has no help

Lamar Odom is Euro trash that cannot handle the ball, hit the three or dish..

Bynum is also too short to play center...he seems tall however he cannot dunk......

Luke Walton is only there so Bill Walton can keep his job as an announcer...

Smush P is a Middle School to NBA player so his game needs work....

Kobe has to score at least 75 points a night just to keep the Fakers at .500

And Garden Snake has to coach the team also...Phil is just there because of Jeannie Buss....

Then in the off season Kobe also does the GM work....You saw him on draft day right?......He even helps the Raiders out with their draft.

Quit being so hard on Kobe Please....don't make him catch another charge...your name might come up instead of Shaq's

kidd for tobe?

since rumors have been flying for the past week, i'm surprised that nobody has speculated on a jason kidd for tobe scenario.

after all, coach jackson wanted to trade tobe for jason kidd before the 1999-2000 season. and coach jackson wanted to trade tobe again in january 2003. so why not try again now in 2006-07?

anyway, in spite of my dislike for pac 10 point guards, i believe that jason kidd would be a good addition to the majority of NBA squads. after all, how many ROYs made the MVP ballot in the same season? and, were it not for the fact that jason kidd had to play against the 2 best players in the league (shaquille o'neal and tim duncan), he probably would already have won a league championhsip title or two by now.

in the meantime, tobe is still looking to capture his first division and conference title.

How do you think ToBe or not ToBe will mesh chemically with the Kidd...especially with the pressure of divorce making a person less and less agreeable?

Re: kidd for tobe?

update:

the fakers los angeles radio station is saying that the third team involved is the portland trailblazers and that the deal would send:

jamal magloire to the fakers

then jamal magloire and kwame brown would be sent to the nets

then jason kidd would be sent to the fakers

but they didn't report what the trailblazers would get out of the deal

runaway slave, how would that trade sit with you?

next year you'd probably have something that looks like this as your starting 5:

marcus williams
vince carter
richard jefferson
kwame brown
jamal magloire/nenad krystic

There better be a 1st round draft pick in there or something
Magloire and Kwame for Kidd??
:smh:

----ALSO----

Since it was primarliy because of Kidd that we lost Byron Scott
as a coach, it would piss me off to no end if they let Kidd go now.
Especially for so little in return. Yes, we need bigs......but that is
mainly because Thorn has been so short sighted in the past few
years drafting big men

So I definitely do NOT wanna see that kind of deal go through. I'd
rather deal CARTER than Kidd. UNLESS you plan on firing the coach
too

i imagine that jason kidd knows how to be a professional and would still approach the game the same way... jason kidd has played with a vast array of NBA talent, so i imagine it wouldn't be difficult at all...

regarding the pressure of divorce, i don't care to speculate on his personal life... however, i will say that the decision was a long time coming, and that jason kidd had ample time to wrestle with it.. much of the emotional distraction is behind him already...

I can tell you that right now with Portland, everyone is on the trading block other than Randolph, Jack, Brandon Roy, and LaMarcus Aldridge.

The team is looking to move salary (paying almost $75 million which is 5th in the league). Paul Allen wants to cut atleast $15 - $20 million of that payroll (sounds farfetched I know) but Mr. Patterson is seriously trying to deal Magloire (who already knows he is leaving town by the deadline). Derek Anderson's contract comes off the books next year and they are also looking to deal Raef LaFrentz and Darius Miles for expiring contracts or draft picks to defer some salary so they can re-sign Travis Outlaw.

RS,

Why dont you tell Rod Thorn to deal Vince and one of those first round picks from the K-Mart trade to Portland for Raef LaFrentz and Darius Miles. Talk about having a strong finisher on the wing.

Re: kidd for tobe?

i had to laugh my ass off over the trailblazers W tonight over the fakers.

rookie lamarcus aldridge, rookie brandon roy, and 2nd year player jarrett jack went a combined 24-35 FGAs (68.5%) tonight. who was guarding jarrett jack, who was 9-12 FGAs tonight?

but never mind that. that wasn't the story of the game. what WAS the story of the game?

with the fakers AHEAD in Q3 75-71, tobe hijacked the O. over the next 5:57 (that's almost HALF an entire quarter of basketball!), tobe took NINE FGAs. even if you disregard the FACT that tobe went a dismal 3-9 FGAs (.333) during that time, the REAL damage was done because only ONE other faker attempted a SINGLE shot during that stretch.

anybody want to guess if the rest of the fakers were cold after not attempting a SINGLE shot? anybody want to guess what the outcome was?

Trading the kid for Kidd isn't move Kupchak should make
February 22, 2007

If I'm Mitch Kupchak, I'm praying like crazy that Andrew Bynum ends up more Christina Aguilera than Britney Spears, and I'm losing sleep at night because it's just so hard to predict how teenagers will turn out.

Kupchak bought stock in a 17-year-old Bynum two years ago, and with Bynum paying some dividends this year the Lakers' general manager apparently is reinvesting in him. If the Lakers don't acquire Jason Kidd from the New Jersey Nets by today's noon trading deadline, it will be at least partly because Kupchak didn't want to give up Bynum, which would be a billboard-sized message about Kupchak's faith in him.

Unlike the Clippers' reluctance to send Shaun Livingston to Philadelphia for Allen Iverson, this makes sense. You don't give up a 7-footer who's improving at Bynum's rate.

Of course, the Lakers could get freaked out over their sixth consecutive loss, this one to the Portland Trail Blazers. But keep in mind, Kidd couldn't keep his current team from losing to the New Orleans Hornets at home. Also the Lakers' 24 assists indicate ball movement wasn't the problem. It's a defense that let Portland shoot almost 60%.

During a lunch-hour interview Wednesday, Kupchak said any deal was "unlikely." In his pregame meeting with reporters, Coach Phil Jackson said he didn't "see a lot of momentum that's going to create anything right now."

So it looks as if this is the Lakers' roster, one that Jackson said "can do some things in this league." But, he added, candidly, "We don't think we're able to make that jump that we have to make to get up there to … some of the other teams at the elite level."

Kupchak said he'd only make a trade for a player who could take the Lakers there and wouldn't merely "tinker" with the roster.

So why not Kidd? On the surface, passing on one of the great point guards in the game to keep a guy with career averages of 5.3 points and 4.4 rebounds makes as much sense as "Lost."

But let's look at this scenario. First, there's the old NBA adage that says you don't trade big for small and young for old, and making Bynum the centerpiece of a deal for Kidd (who turns 34 next month) would do both.

Second, even though Kidd is a great player, I'm not convinced the Lakers are the best fit for him. Kidd's always had the ball in his hands. On the Lakers that privilege belongs to Kobe Bryant. Bryant doesn't like to wait around for other players to set him up; he'd rather create on his own. This season, more than ever, that's also meant trying to create opportunities for his teammates. To get the maximum from Kidd would, in some way, diminish Bryant's influence — not to mention Lamar Odom's.

Also, when Kidd doesn't have the ball, his poor shooting means his man could leave him to double Bryant.

The triangle offense is based on the pass, not the dribble drive that is Kidd's forte. Remember how frustrated Gary Payton was here? It's functioned fine with the likes of John Paxson and Derek Fisher playing point guard and hitting open jumpers.

Meanwhile, Jackson has won with Shaquille O'Neal at center, and he's won with Luc Longley. All they need is for Bynum to be something in between.

"We feel he's got to continue to improve," Kupchak said. "We don't want him to be a journeyman. We want him to be a starting player. We think he can be better than that."

When the Lakers chose him with the 10th draft pick despite a limited high school career, they were confident they had seen enough.

"It was clearly a gamble," Kupchak said.

What sold him were "the soft hands, the competitive nature. You just can't get guys that size like that."

It was the Lakers' highest draft pick since they took Eddie Jones 10th in 1994. With no salary cap room, this was their one clear shot at getting an impact player as they entered the post-O'Neal era. It was Kupchak's most significant decision. (I consider the O'Neal trade owner Jerry Buss' choice, not Kupchak's.)

So far, no regrets. There isn't a player selected after Bynum who has come back to haunt the Lakers. In fact, I'd take Bynum over each of the nine players selected ahead of him except for Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

After seeing limited action last season, Bynum was forced into more minutes this year because of Chris Mihm's season-ending ankle surgery and Kwame Brown's sprained ankle in December.

Jackson said Bynum has done well with the second unit, but needs to be more aggressive and demand the ball when playing with Bryant and Odom.

Bynum isn't shaken by hearing his name in the trade rumors. "It feels great," he said, and he's heartened by the notion the Lakers don't want to give him up for Kidd.

"That means they like the growth I've made in my time here," he said.

"I have confidence in myself. I've proven that I can play at this level. I think I just need to be more consistent. That's the biggest thing right now. I have a lot of ups and downs. It just comes with maturing and working on your game more and more."

The man who wants consistent double-doubles had eight points and seven rebounds Wednesday, which means there's more work to be done. Here's hoping he does it in a Lakers uniform.
