I almost didn't vote on this one, but I knew there'd be a few idiots that would vote for Mchale.

Ewing all day!

Kevin Mchale was a good low post scorer and sometime shot blocker but Ewing was the much better player, even if the celtics were the better teams.

McHale was one of the GREATEST low post scorers, a great rebounder, a great defender, a fine free throw shooter and a solid shot blocker. Still the only player to shoot 60% from the field and 80% from the line in the same season (and he nearly did it back-to-back). Also, a winner.

...You asked "BETTER PLAYER", not best career, or most accomplished career, as in "RINGS"..Adam Morrison has more rings than a lot of players ...1st you're comparing 2 of the greats of their era, but you're also comparing a power forward versus a center....kinda like comparing Kareem with Worthy, not really a good comparison....bottom line its pretty much a tossup for me skill-wise, but if I'm forced I'd say Pat is the better player because I think individually if you take the 2 players off the Celtics and Knicks and place them on weaker teams, Pat Ewing at center makes EVERY team a better team a little more than McHale would...but honestly its very close....for what its worth NBA reference rates Ewing #31, McHale #34 all-time.....

There's nothing Ewing did better than McHale.

What he said.....

Ewing carried the Knicks for years with little help....anchored one of the toughest, defensive teams ever, and WON...McHale never had to carry the Celtics one day in his career...McHale played next to Bird and Parrish, perhaps the best front line EVER, and on some of the greatest teams ever...HUGE DIFFERENCE...

Kevin Mchale had more low post skills and better defense than Ewing. Plus has won chaampionships! Thread Close!

Ewing underachieved as a rebounder and a shooter. Since he "carried" his team he got the chance to hoist up 20 shots a game and score 20 PPG, even though his shooting percentage was sub-par for a center.

McHale never had to carry the Celtics one day in his career...McHale played next to Bird and Parrish, perhaps the best front line EVER, and on some of the greatest teams ever...HUGE DIFFERENCE...

You just made my case. McHale had to SHARE rebounding and shooting duties with at least two other stars, and still put up huge numbers. When he was a starter he averaged 23 PPG (on less shots than Ewing and a much higher %) and 9 RPG, and was even more effective as a 6th Man. Dude was a totally dominant player, on both ends of the court, from the beginning to the end of his career. Totally UNIQUE player.

Glad to see that 67.5% at this post time have their heads on straight.

What's next Jabbar vs. Ainge?

Patrick started his entire career. McHale?

You think McHale didn't start because he wasn't good enough??

Dude was a premier, unstoppable offensive player and arguably the greatest shot-blocking forward in history. Put up "center" numbers from the forward position.

apples and oranges

one was a center and the other was a forward.

different positions what's to compare

How many rings Ewing got?

rings mean jack shit in determining how good a player in a team sport is ?

no one player can win a championship and many great players never won a ring.

championships mean something in golf, tennis, boxing, swimming..you know individual sports.
