Kanye West was deeply moved by the story of a Chicago security guard who was murdered by the cops after he subdued a gunman ... and has stepped up big time to help his family.

West heard the story of Jemel Roberson -- who was gunned down by police after stopping a drunken man with a gun -- and wanted to do whatever he could to lessen the burden on his family. West donated $150,000 to Roberson's family Friday, the goal originally placed on a GoFundMe account for Roberson's family was $10,000.

As we reported ... Roberson was working security at Manny's Blue Room Bar Sunday around 4 AM where several drunk customers were ordered out. One of those customers returned to the bar a short time later with a gun and opened fire.

Reports say Roberson returned fire, subdued the gunman and held him at gunpoint until police arrived ... but when the police officer got to the scene, he shot Roberson, killing him.

Kanye has spent a lot of time in Chicago over the last few months.

As for Roberson ... reports say he was working extra shifts at the bar in order to have some extra money to provide for his son at Christmas.

His killing is still under investigation.

I can't speak on Boyce and Tariq charitable works. They don't strike me as the type to be silent about it, but not everyone publicizes their giving. We didn't find out all the good stuff Prince had done until after he died. That said people can do good things and still be an ass in other areas. It's not 100% one or the other. When Kanye was acting a fool publicly, it was good and proper to address it, like it is good and proper to praise his actions now. Boyce and Tariq need to be slapped silly for suggesting black folk not vote, but if they do something praiseworthy in the right context, they will get it as well.

I agree that 2 things can be true and that people who say or do bad things can also say or do good things.

I think R Kelly and Bill Cosby can fall into that category as can Kanye.

I disagree that what was happening when Kanye was going on in his episodes that anything was being addressed.

Robbins called for assistance and Midlothian and I believe Crestwood Police came out to help as well as the other suburbs are known for, take Riverdale for instance they don't have a SWAT team so they will call Harvey and Dolton to help. Btw Midlothian police officer are the ones who arrested Robbins chief of police a couple years ago for a DUI.. Also the Cook County Sheriffs ride around Robbins all day long
