Mark Vester from BoxingScene.com reports that a spokesperson for Michael Katsidis said the boxer was in a state of shock and not talking about the incident: "We've just heard the news," said the spokesperson, "Michael is in a state of shock he isn't talking."

Several news outlets, including ESPN, New Zealand's 3 News and the New Zealand Herald, are reporting that 31-year-old jockey Stathi Katsidis, brother of top lightweight Michael Katsidis, was found dead in his home in Australia on Tuesday.

The body was found on Tuesday by the jockey's girlfriend, Melissa Jackson, in Brisbane, according to Jackson's father. Katsidis was the leading jockey in Brisbane last season and had several future races planned.

Stathi and Michael's brother, Brendon, was given the news by his mother, and was preparing to tell Michael soon. Michael is currently in Thailand preparing for a highly-anticipated November 27 bout against Mexican superstar Juan Manuel Marquez.

The cause of death is unknown, but according to some sources, it is expected to be substance-related. The 31-year-old had been arrested in 2008 with ecstasy in his system and had gone out for drinks with some friends on Monday.

Though no official statement has been made regarding the fight, some sources expect that the fight might be postponed indefinitely, which seems very reasonable given the circumstances and the close proximity to the fight.

According to the ESPN article, David Itskowitch, a Golden Boy promotions executive, said, "We haven't spoken to Michael, but we have spoken to Brendon. Our concern right now is for Michael, not as to whether he will fight. He just lost his brother, who he was very close with. However long it takes, he will decide what he will do. Right now the fight is not a concern for us. We're concerned for him."

The undercard of the Katsidis fight was scheduled to include a title fight between Andre Berto vs. Freddy Hernandez and a 10-round match between well-regarded Celestino Caballero and Jason Litzau, who most recently defeated Rocky Juarez.

There is no news on whether the other bouts would continue without the headline bout. If postponed, this would be the second postponement for Berto in the past year. His January bout with "Sugar" Shane Mosley was cancelled after Berto lost several relatives in the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Our hearts and prayers are with the Jackson and Katsidis families as they deal with this unfortunate passing.

Updates will be posted as they become available.

Damm R.I.P. to Katsidis brother.:smh:

Very unfortunate and my condolences and prayers go out to his family... but have we EVER had a year like this with so many major fights cancelled for different reasons?!!??! :smh:

Pac v Margarito might get buys off GP. I can't front I've been thinking about it cause a nigga is fiending for some big screen/big event Boxing.

Shit has been teeribul like Barkley would say.

Condolences to the Katsidis family.

Co-signing all posts about boxing in 2010. Just a strange year. 2009 spoiled the shit out of us.

He might mess around and pull a buster douglas... draw inspiration from this tradegy and whip marquez' ass.... stranger things have happened!

Katsidis is a warrior and a banger, like you said, stranger things have happened - I just can't see it though. He eats too many punches and is always attacking, the perfect style for Marquez to get a tko. And ya'll forget - Buster had genuine skills. But I wouldn't be mad if he did win it for his brother.

True but marquez has been eating more punches lately and katsidis can bump. Recipe for a surprise....

Marquez has always eaten punches, he's not exactly a defensive wizard. Actually his defense looked better in his last fight. I just see Katsidis eating alot of pinpoint combos and uppercuts. Attacking Marquez all out is not the way to beat him.

No doubt. Actually aggression is the way to beat him but witth a lot of lateral movement and angles, sort of home Manny beat him. Its hard to counter a mover. Katsidis hit hard but he is straight ahead and will get chipped up.

I disagree, Juan, outside of the Mayweather fight has never truly been BEATEN. Pac lost both fights in my opinion, BECAUSE he attacked, everytime he jumped in to land a shot he took 2 or 3 right to the jaw. Even with angles Marquez is almost perfect at anticipating attack lanes. May showed the way to beat Juan is to make HIM be the aggressor, it's not natural for him since he's such a great counterpuncher. That's why people complained that Mayweather wasn't aggressive enough and din't go after him, if you go after Marquez, you open yourself up to be countered accurately. People point to the first Diaz fight and say "that's how you gotta fight Marquez" - wrong, Marquez himself said he knew Diaz couldn't hurt him so he let Juan expend himself early and Marquez was hitting him with accurate power shots while Diaz was landing his. It took it's toll. I'm not saying Katsidis doesn't have a chance to beat Marquez, something like a the death of a loved one can spur boxers to fight beyond their talents but I think it'll be a FOTY candidate and I see Michael starting out strong but getting picked apart round by round and stopped late. IMO, Marquez has to get old overnight or badly cut (which would be more likely) to lose this one.

on point...I see this like the first Marquez-Diaz fight. Katsidis could smother him with offense early, but get picked apart by the middle to late rounds.

Is it me or does Marquez get involved in many fights that are FOTY material? I mean the Pac fights, Diaz I, and the Casamayor bout were all great...

Dude is a throwback champ. We were talking about this the other day in another thread. Always goes after the best and biggest challenges and with the exception of the Mayweather fight - has never really lost. Had they not robbed Marquez in that second Pac fight, Marquez would be a household name like Pacquiao right now. But Pac was younger, marketable, and dudes thought Marquez was on his way out (oh and having Bob Arum greasing judges doesn't hurt either). What JMM do? He moves up to lightweight and dominates completely. Not a lot of smoke and mirrors and feastin on old or beat up fighters and non-boxing IQ having mufuccas like Pacman. Great fighter man. It's a shame that Pac will be seen historically as a better fighter because of dickriding and clueless boxing "analysts" (with emphasis on the "anal" part).:D

Very true. Only if I could erase the fact that the motherfucker drinks his own piss, I wouldn't have a bad thing to say about dude.

We do have to take into account that Marquez has had to prove himself his whole career and even recently, in the first Diaz fight up until Floyd, people thought he was too old. After Floyd people thought he might be a mentally beaten fighter. Diaz II was him dipping his toes in the water, but a lot people still don't fuck with him like that.

If he was accepted as boxing royalty, he might not be putting himself out there with consistently good fighters at his age. I'm not trying to knock him either... I love what he's doing but at some point the wear-n-tear will show up and he has to know it, like every boxer knows it.

Very true, but how old will he be? He's already what 36 or 37? Dude has shown no signs really of getting old. I watch fights from 6 or 7 years ago and really the only difference is that he fights a lil smarter now. I haven't seen any let up in speed and his legs still give him the explosiveness he needs, he's never been blazing fast but his timing is still impeccable. Yeah, the whole piss drinking thing was just:puke::lol: I must say though, right now he's my current favorite fighter to watch. I mean even Amir Khan ain't want no parts of him talking 'bout "his price was too high" - nicca!! gtfoh!! This cat Khan hasn't even sold any ppv's. The way they protect these young cats is just:smh:

:lol::lol:
What a bitch! And people really think Oscar would sacrifice him to Mayweather?

I agree but a lot of fighters look good until that one fight were it just seems like it all falls apart. I mean look at B hop.... then again B hop fought some bums and it's hard to tell if he was slowing down or if he on cruise control but that RJJ fight really brought his age to the light for me.

Some cats fight up to the level of their competition, look at Sweet Pea. Look at his fight vs Hurtado - down twice, looked generally like shit, then came back and looked great against Oscar. It''s funny how B-Hop ain't want no parts of Dawson but will fight the guy that gave him his first L.
What's fucked up is that the age thing can happen from one fight to the next as opposed to a slow decline like Shane Mosley.

He will, getting outboxed by Floyd is much more acceptable than getting ko'd by Marquez. Floyd even though he's getting up there, is still seen as a young fighter. Marquez is seen as an exception to the rule kinda like B-Hop. Marquez, with his experience, timing and power would probably take Khan apart at this stage. I'm sure Freddie and Oscar steered Amir well clear of that dude for those reasons, not no fuckin money. But yeah that statement is:lol::lol::lol:
