In a grudge rematch, multi-division world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce (59-6-2, 45 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Angky Angkota (25-6, 15 KOs) to claim the vacant WBO bantamweight title on Saturday in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Arce launched a brutal, sustained all-out attack on Angkota in round three, but Angkota somehow survived and left Arce largely punched out. Angkota staggered Arce in round eight and had “Travieso” hanging on. Arce caught a second wind in the eleventh round and both fighters landed hard shots in the final rounds. Scores were 118-110, 118-110, 117-111.
With the win Arce becomes the first Mexican fighter to win world titles in five divisions (counting one interim title at 112lbs). The bout was a rematch of the six round technical decision won by Arce in January 2010 after Ankota was cut by an accidental headbutt.
Earlier, in an IBF super flyweight eliminator, former world champion Alberto “Topo” Rosas (36-6, 27 KOs) scored a twelve round majority decision over Zolani Tete (15-2, 13 KOs). Rosas was very aggressive and took the fight to Tete the entire twelve rounds, while Tete landed some good combinations when he wasn’t fending off Rosas’ punches. Rosas won by scores of 115-112, 115-112 and 113-113.
