Sounds like Disney is hesitating. Probably afraid of another Wrinkle In Time. :smh:

Jordan Peele Reportedly Wants to Direct a ‘Gargoyles’ Movie at Disney

In the mid-1990s, Walt Disney Television produced an animated series called Gargoyles about a group of creatures that were turned to stone during the day but protected New York City by night. A stylistic successor to Batman: The Animated Series, the show featured darker storylines than were typically found in animation of that era and gained a cult following. Its small but loyal fan base has been clamoring for a movie version for years, and now it appears that one of Hollywood’s hottest directors wants to direct one.

A new report says Jordan Peele, who won an Oscar for writing last year’s cultural phenomenon Get Out, has actually pitched a new movie take on the animated series to Disney. Read more about the possible Jordan Peele Gargoyles movie below.

In today’s edition of the entertainment industry newsletter The Ankler, writer Richard Rushfield reports that Peele “walk[ed] in and says he wants to do a new version of Gargoyles.” But instead of green lighting it or turning it down outright, Disney is apparently sitting on its hands.

“How do you turn down Jordan Peele? Well, you can’t. Who wants to be responsible for that decision? So in the absence of a good reason to say no, but prevented by their Big IP box from saying yes, Disney is slow walking the decision. It’s hoping, it seems, that they’ll run out the clock, he’ll sign other deals elsewhere, and the project will just fade away.”

Rushfield suggests that because Peele’s take on Gargoyles doesn’t fit neatly within Disney’s branded silos (live-action fairy tale, Star Wars, Pixar, Marvel), the studio sees it as too much of a risk. He characterizes the company’s lack of decisiveness as being based on the paralyzing fear of not wanting to turn down a project that may turn out to be a great idea. Instead of turn it down, he says, they’ll just play a waiting game with Peele and patiently sit there until he moves on to something else.

I’m torn on this one because I watched Gargoyles and appreciated it when I was younger, but it didn’t have a lasting impact on me that Batman: The Animated Series did. (The shows shared some of the same creative team.) Part of me wants this project to fade away so Peele can work on more original movies, but I am admittedly intrigued to see what he would do with a movie version of this concept. On paper, the premise sounds a little like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – a living clan of gargoyles are led by a character named Goliath, and a sympathetic female cop helps them fight bad guys. It’s not like a film version of this type of story would be unprecedented, and seeing what a filmmaker as gifted and thoughtful as Peele might do with commentary about these creatures who are “other-ized” and yet still protect their community could be fascinating. But then again, the name recognition of this show may not be enough for Disney to give this the budget it might need.

In case Disney never moves forward with a Gargoyles movie, this fan film we wrote about not too long ago will have to scratch that itch for all the fans out there:

I agree with the article. How do you turn down Jordan Peele at this point? I don't want to hear about branding or any of that bullshit. If you take him at this point in his fame and say 'no', that's all we need to know about how you really feel about things.

Fuck popularity. Fuck appeal. Fuck nostalgia (as great as it is...). Write that man a check and let him go to work.

meh...... he must have been one of the few kids that actually watched that..

What the crack are you smocking!!!!

Few!!

Gargoyles is one of the greatest cartoons of all time. All fucking time!!

Plus this is a cartoon we should support as a movie.. it was the first cartoon with an African America female character in the lead role and she was a bad ass.

:dunno:

wasn't popular around my way

but if peele wants to do a movie about it I'm all for it

hell naw.. i still watch cartoons.. just never watched the gargoyles...

The heck... never watched gargoyles??

Dude do yourself a favor..

Go to my TV packs thread in the movie section. Download a copy of the show. Watch it and come back. That show got deep. It had deep rich characters, betrayal, twists, long story arcs, great action sets, an amazing led character In Goliath.... I could go on and on.

The only problem is that Disney fucked Up the third season. Hell I’d pay good money for a new season that ignores the third season.

Elisa is of mixed heritage, African-American on her mother's side, and Native American (mostly, but not exclusively, Hopi) on her father's side, ("Cloud Fathers") though she is a born and bred New Yorker. She is tall and athletic, as well as quick-witted, and she can hold her own against almost any adversary, though she is often impulsive.

Fucking loved that show as a kid, however it's not until adulthood that I recognized the beastiality lmfao. Not to mention that I started to find that demona was fucking hot ! And I'm talking about in her beast form lmfao I've said to much

I think if you actually watched it...

You would understand why it holds such a special place for alot of us.

Cartoons weren't doing what this show was doing..

Plus it was the show that Greg Wisemen cut his teeth on. It's what brought him to the main stream. I don't even know if we would have Spectacular Spider-Man and Young Justice without Gargoyles.

You can even see the Shakespearean themes that he used in Gargoyles within Spectacular Spiderman.

Yes everything about it was dope!
It took that Batman TAS film noir style and mixed it with mythologies, great adult story telling, and Shakespearean theatre to a whole new level. I learned a lot about folklore and mythologies because of that show. Also, Goliath's character was so deep. GREAT SHOW!

For all the great work that Disney has done this is probably their biggest omission. They allowed this show to disappear from the Hall of the Greats where it belongs. The show was so ahead of its time in so many areas that it’s insane. No other cartoon back then was serialized like this show. Hell... it was one of the first properties that used the “Previously on” tagline that’s common place now.

Plus Goliath was as close as we were going to get to a black lead character in a cartoon back then.

So many classic episodes..

Probably the first cartoon that showed a main character not only get shot but end up in the hospital and took a couple episodes to recover.

Not to mention a SUPER awesome antagonist in the character of David Xanatos... where the famous :Xanatos Gambit" comes from. Even if he looses... he actually WINS!

It’s just boogles my mind why they don’t show this this anywhere... I mean it is fucking tailormade for Netflix. It’s was binge worthy before bingeworthy was a thing.

I mean you had a cartoon where the Heroes greatest love end up becoming his worst Villian. It was a tragic relationship... especially when they showed flashbacks of Demona with Goliath and the others before the betrayal by the humans. She lived hundreds of years thinking that her clan was destroyed...

Speaking about the villians...
I also loved how the show to detail to give almost all of the main villians substance and meat. Dingo ended up becoming one of my favorite characters. His episode in Australia where he gains the nanosuit was one of the best episodes in the series. I remember wishing that they made a dingo spinoff.

This right here makes me mutherfucking happy.....

Disney needs to get off their ass... they are holding on a to a multi-million dollar franchise. Almost all of the original voice cast is alive... I don’t want live action or CGI... I want hand drawn shit with a little computer animation for the big set pieces. Somebody make this shit happen.

Just MENTIONING this and having it go viral?

Was enough to slap Disney awake.

Even if the movie never happens

He just made sure it wil be on dvd and the new streaming service.
