Jon Stewart rips pal Brian Williams over Iraq helicopter scandal
Stewart took the frequent 'Daily Show' guest to task for lying about getting shot down in Iraq in 2003, saying the revered anchor's ego got in the way of his reporting.
Jon Stewart took the gloves off on his ol' pal Brian Williams.
On Monday night's show, "The Daily Show" host skewered Williams over the Iraq military chopper fiasco, accusing the revered anchor of letting his ego get in the way of his reporting.
"We got us a case here of 'infotainment confusion syndrome,'" Stewart said, after running a clip of the NBC newsman telling his pumped-up tale of derring-do on "The Late Show with David Letterman" in 2013.
"It occurs when the 'celebrity cortex' gets it wires crossed with the 'medulla anchor-dalla,'" he said.
Williams, of course, has been under fire for lying about dodging danger during the Iraq war, saying a helicopter he was riding in was crippled by enemy fire during a reporting mission in 2003.
Over the weekend, he announced he'd be stepping away from the networks flagship evening news program to let the dust settle. Lester Holt will be sitting in for him.
Later in the segment, Stewart took jabs at Williams' competitors in the media for their round-the-clock coverage of the scandal.
Williams has been a frequent and jovial presence on "The Daily Show" over the past several years, appearing most recently in June 2013.
