“Because of my last name, people think I’m a religious person,” Falwell said. “But I’m not.”

“We had to put on an act,” Becki noted

“There was so much pressure on me to become somebody I wasn’t,” he said. “I’d wake up each day saying ‘How am I going to do this?'”

“Nothing in history has done more to turn people away from Christianity than organized religion,” he said. “The religious elite has got this idea that somehow their sins aren’t as bad as everyone else’s.”.

GOP HYPOCRISY
Jerry Falwell Jr. Opens Up and Basically Admits the Whole Evangelical Thing Was Just an Act
BY MEGAN HAMILTON
JANUARY 27, 2022

When the infamous “pool boy scandal” broke, it shattered the reputations of Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife Becki. His evangelical empire fell and their influence within the Republican Party was crushed. It eventually led Falwell to resign as president of Liberty University in August 2020, Queerty reports.
The couple fessed up in an interview with Vanity Fair, admitting their whole evangelical power couple shtick was nothing more than an act and that they never lived by the values they spouted to the gullible. I say gullible because it was more than evident that these two were charlatans, especially after those photos emerged of Falwell at a Miami circuit party, and of course, the clip of Falwell partying, pants unzipped, with shirtless guys.
“Because of my last name, people think I’m a religious person,” Falwell said. “But I’m not.”
“We had to put on an act,” Becki noted.
Jerry became president of Liberty University after his father, Jerry Falwell Sr., founder of the university, passed away in 2007. All those ugly things he said, well, hey. He really hated saying those things and was just playing the part of a bigoted Christian puppet even though he hated it he told the magazine.
“There was so much pressure on me to become somebody I wasn’t,” he said. “I’d wake up each day saying ‘How am I going to do this?'”

Well, he apparently found a way. I’m guessing that multimillion-dollar salary and frequent invites to the Trump White House probably sustained him somehow.
As for Becki, while her husband’s reputation was rising, she was beginning to feel lonely. She began to notice boys on campus were “giving me attention that I’d never gotten before,” but this ultimately led to “the biggest regret I’ve ever had.”
This is, of course, a reference to her affair with pool boy Giancarlo Granda.
“I had someone I could talk to,” she said. “It’s that dopamine rush. All of a sudden this young, handsome fella starts texting you and giving you attention and you’re like, ‘wow, this is kind of nice.'
Becki also admitted in the interview that she recorded their trysts with her “big Canon camera.”
“A couple of times I put it on the dresser and Giancarlo agreed to it,” she told Vanity Fair.
But the guilt over her affair eventually got to her so she told Jerry about it. He reluctantly allowed it to continue.
“Jerry would wake up every morning and worry that my affair would come out,” Becki said. “Both of us did. It’s just horrible to have that over you.”
Then came the inevitable fall from grace once the story finally broke. Falwell resigned from his job at the university. Then there were the lawsuits and the couple found themselves cast out of evangelical land.
Falwell has reflected on this and said it’s caused him to hate the church.
“Nothing in history has done more to turn people away from Christianity than organized religion,” he said. “The religious elite has got this idea that somehow their sins aren’t as bad as everyone else’s.”
Even if Falwell is a former evangelical, he and others like Paula White, Joel Osteen, and others have added a sleazy quality to organized religion. Prostitution is illegal in most of the country but these people promise God will do you favors if you give them money. Isn’t that more or less the same thing?
Well anyway, Becki says “We’re together more than any couple you will meet in your life. He forgave me and that’s what Jesus teaches. Forgiveness.”
How cushy can you get? In August 2021, Falwell’s net worth was $110 million. I’m sure that money helps alleviate their suffering at least a little bit.
Aren’t you glad these two have faded from the public eye?

You can only live a lie for so long.

He's not turning away from Christianity, it's just turning from the Evangelical form of it.

“Because of my last name, people think I’m a religious person,” Falwell said. But I’m not.”

We had to put on an act,” Becki noted

And none of that states that he's turning against Christianity.

It simply states that he's rejecting the judgemental and typically hypocritical form of Evangelical Christianity that has taken rise in the age of Trump, which is causing a divide within Christianity and turning people as a whole away from Christianity and religion in general.

Furthermore his own IG page, clearly states that he is still a Christian.

its not about turning away from. "christianity' u can claim "christianity" like all the evangelicals like him do all day and still support racism & all the fuckery cac WS,he has to atleast maintain space enuff for himself to keep the $$ coming,
its not what u claim to be its what u do!! even Trump will say he's "christian" ! every pedophile pastor will still claim "christian"
this is about finally admitting to being a hypocrite and lier and cheat & sexual deviant & thief & WS supporter and seeing how his alliance with Trump has destroyed his legacy, he's trying to appear remorseful ,save face and still maintain that $$$ base!
he can claim "christian" a million times a day doesn't change that he knows he's being exposed and he needs to save some face & $$

Some rich White Republican CAC who made a shit ton of money off of poorer CACs that he lives like a king but him and his wife are freaks and only after he and his family lie were exposed did he cop to what the world already knew...that he was full of shit

But White people want to beLIEve more than Mulder and Scully. Sadly, a lot of Black people are caught in this religion shit, too. Pouring their money into the coffers of pastors and funding those pastors lives while they themselves live like paupers.

Also, fuck religion. Fuck Christianity especially

I don’t think the people who attend T.D. Jake’s church are poor. Aren’t there churches asking for W-2s?

Well, they for damned sure are poorer than TD Jakes. Never give money to people who have more than you.

Da Fuq

But I don't trust church or churches or pastors so you would never see me doing no shit like that

Bishop Luther Blackwell of Cleveland's mega church on Scranton had the church do a fund raiser so he and his wife could go to Africa for their 30th wedding anniversary.

When not enough money was raised, he said, and I quote, "You want your man of God to fly COACH!"

And these gullible fuckers at that church donated more money so the pastor could fly first class with his wife to Africa

FUXK THAT

So what. It's true

Feel free to believe those rip-off scam artists all you want. It's your life and your money to pour down whatever drain you feel

Me on the other hand, but last time I went to church I threw my wallet in the air and told God he could keep all the money he needed. When my wallet fell back to Earth, all our money remained in it.

I guess God doesn't need my money

I have inferred from your posts in this thread that you feel a certain way about religions especially Christianity. Your feelings are that: yours. I’m not saying it’s right or it’s wrong. Your feelings are yours.

Unfortunately, I don’t think your anecdotes are relevant to the issue at hand. I think the issue is Manifest Destiny that was hinted at in @mangobob79 post.

Holding an upside down Bible… C’mon son
The former president may not have been one of the most pious men in this nation, but of the people who are considered “people” in a nation that was bestowed upon them by God, TFP is not a bad representation for the idea of the creation of this said nation.

TFP is an awful human being. But he’s not the worst human being. He’s a man of his time. And this country always sprouts awful human beings that just so coincides with wars.

Holding an upside down Bible… C’mon son

Nothing wrong with HOW you hold a bible...the motherfcuker said TWO Corinthians!!! You learn the bible verses using 'First' and 'Second' Samuel, Kings, Corinthians, etc... That fool is about as Christian as my foot is my hand!

What's your favorite bible passage? They're all good... Like he couldn't even pull out one of the classics: GOD so loved the world... I can do all things through Christ... He who is without sin....

Hmmm!!! We as a whole gotta unplug from the television, all forms of media/social media, radio, newspaper, cell, laptops!!! Either unplug from the media machine or sit back and enjoy your programming and conditioning!! Now back to your regular scheduled Programming!! Copper colour people watch the most television than any group, so were taking in the most of this misinformation!! Anyway, dont believe anything unless you witness the event in-person and with your own EYE's!!!

Master the deception!!
Dont let it master you!!

The tv is the best scientific
indoctrination tool ever
devised!!(Theres a reason why

in this world) Why haven't we
figured that out yet??

No matter how big the
lies, repeat it often enuf

It is so funny the only real true Christians (to a certain point) in the White House in the last 45 years was really Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama……and the Evangelical people treated them like shit.
Easy, how you going to compare Sunday school Jimmy to Obama?

Is your post meant to be ironic? This thread is about the heir to a religious institution admitting his faults. There is no such thing as “a real Christian”.

It’s the deeds, stupid.

You missed a key point in my paragraph…..(to a certain point)

What’s the context, Easy?
The context is they did more to help the poor people then the Republican presidents. Bill Clinton to a certain extent did the same thing but he was really focus on the middle-class and rich Democrats now don’t get me wrong I made good money in the 90s with some of Bill Clinton policies but I am not putting him on the list with Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama.

In America, who's considered a person?

Most kids of preachers are this way

My grandfather was a pastor. My brother told me that when he came around that all the drinking, smoking and card playing stopped. He joked that it was like a movie when there was a police raid, all the gambling tables flipped over, and in a few seconds it goes from a gambling joint to a church service. He and some of my cousins had said my dad was the only son in law my grandfather really respected because if he was smoking or drinking when he came to visit, he continued to do so. He said he was the man of his own house.

That said, there are charlatans in the faith, but that's not the case for everyone. Preacher kids have extra scrutiny their entire lives. After a life of restrictions, I think it's natural for them to rebel at one time or another until they decide if what they believe is what they really believe and if they are living and behaving how they want to live, or something that has just been drilled into them. I also think when you grow up seeing "miracles" regularly, it becomes a common occurrence, and that it you take it for granted. The everyday just isn't special after a while.

My grandfather was a true believer and man of God, and I think part of the reaction to his presence was to show respect for that, but also a bit of fear as many kids, even grown, fear judgment from their parents or authority figures.

As someone else said tho, the faith led to an income for the Falwell's, so there was probably the desire for that to continue and all the personal benefits that come with being the son of a popular preacher, as well as perhaps to keep his father's reputation and legacy intact.

I hope folks go back and revisit some of his political comments that he has made in light of all this interview.

I think you can be a Christian and not "religious". We have believers on this board, myself included. Professing to gullible folks what God said to you or what God wants them to do and berating them and threatening them with God's wrath for not complying when you aren't hearing from Him in the first place is a different matter, tho.
