Jay-Z and Jack Dorsey criticized for launching ‘Bitcoin Academy’ in Marcy Projects.

I think it's great. Having knowledge is "never" a bad thing. Props J.

The Bitcoin Academy itself seems to have quite a bit in common with this latter project. The academy’s website promises that its classes will “empower the community with knowledge and get rid of some of the barriers so that residents can learn more about Bitcoin specifically and finance in general.” The only named instructors are two bitcoin influencers, Lamar Wilson and Najah J. Roberts, who promise they will teach people “about Bitcoin, how it works, why you should care, and how to build your own financial future.”

While offering free classes on financial literacy would be uncontroversial, the academy’s focus on bitcoin has drawn heavy criticism. The world of cryptocurrency is littered with financial scams, hacks, and fraud, where unsuspecting investors are encouraged to buy in to various coins with promises of fast returns, only to find the rug pulled from underneath them and their savings destroyed. Responding to the announcement of the academy on Twitter, many users accordingly labelled the project a “pyramid scheme.”

I respect your opinion brother. But my own still stands. Anyone who makes an attempt to help black folks is ok in my book regardless of race.
He's not trying to help black folks. You seem to be missing this. Help would be money, better housing, jobs. Not trading something as volatile as Bitcoin with no income

Fam our folks cant wait to attack our own, before its even up and running lol.

Lot of folks here really out of touch with and or do not know what NYC projects are like. This notion that people in low income housing do not have income is just not true. Go to the PJs and see how many people in REAL Gucci, Real J's, Real trash diamonds, there is money in the low income areas its just not allocated to the proper investments. I grew up in several projects in NY, but moms and pops were financially literate and understood the value of getting house. Seems like people are caught up on bitcoin but it doesnt seem like its just that. Imagine if our folks just took 1/10 of what we spent on Luxury Euro and invested in some BTC, or stocks, or etf?

Only our folks will find a way to criticize someone Black from the community trying to educate our own.

I have some BTC/ADA/ETH Im not super invested but I do realize it is here to stay in some form or fashion, Im a dinosaur but I still try and stay in the mix when it comes to financial literacy.

Peace

Just like with physical currency.

People want him (and other black wealthy people) to actually physically give out money. Just teaching and providing resources to achieve on your own is not enough for some.
People tend to hate what they don't understand.

Nobody even knows the curriculum or how they intend on teaching about crypto yet the hate is abundant.

Lot's of financial experts believe crypto is the future and if it is, wouldn't it be a good idea to get the at risk community knowledgeable in it instead of getting left behind like they do on so many other things?

Yep, ask the same people complaining what are they doing to help. Crickets and excuses.

FOH nephew...

Its a pretty safe bet that I have more business/economics educations and credentials than you.

I'd like to tap into your "expertise" to answer my post from earlier.

***Crypto is a speculative currency play backed by nothing and regulated by no one***

Please correct me on this statement if its inaccurate.

“If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”

The lesson of teaching these new men to fish ain’t enough. You gotta supply em with the line, the bait, the tackle, the car ride to the pier, the reel, the bucket and everything else, :smh:

The lesson is far more important.

Teaching poor people how to invest or even middle class people how to invest means nothing without the actual capital. Why you can't grasp this is concerning

Facts. I'm all for teaching financial literacy, but if you're in the projects chances are you don't have a lot of disposable income to invest in a mutual fund, let alone something as volatile as crypto. Shit they might not even have an emergency savings fund.

This is a really fucked up and dumb response.

There aren't levels of knowledge and awareness when it comes to finances? Jay Z is a "narcissist" for attempting to increase the knowledge and awareness in his community?
Providing jobs along with knowledge so poor people can use this knowledge to invest would be ideal. Providing knowledge to starving poor people who don't know where their next meal is coming from but will know how to buy a Bitcoin Is foolish

Exactly..so now I'm spending what little Income I have on some shit that is speculative at best. Jay z gonna bail me out when I lose what little money I have?

I would never want to dispute such an esteemed, business guru/genius such as yourself. My apologies.

However USD is not backed by anything either. Although USD is regulated, the good thing about crypto is that it is not regulated.

But that was not my point. I am saying yall know absolutely nothing about the curriculum or plans for this school, so how can you have such a negative opinion?

Good post....

The same middle class and poor people spend hundreds of dollars on Jordan’s, Gucci belts, alcohol, drugs, cars etc.

You telling me they can’t make the correct financial decision by sacrificing, even the smallest of vices?

...even beyond BTC, if the curriculum teaches about blockchain in general that's a win.

Free classes include “What Is Cryptocurrency?” and “What is Blockchain?”

...this is def a head start on something that will be regulated and part of the financial fabric of this country in the future. Taking those two classes alone will probably put them ahead of 95% of the population knowledge-wise.

Capitalism is the common denominator. So the solution isn't mote capitalism via investing. They don't have disposable income or the luxury for either of these. Jobs which Dorsey and Jay-Z can provide would be much better

Stocks, bonds,ETFs,loans, and governmental funds & programs that help people that need it or do things to preserve their environment. Also help people learn how to start a business.

Add bitcoin in there but theirs other things to be aware of first.
