Good read, makes a lot of sense. At no point does he call her fat and lazy. He says that if she stuck to a year round diet and training regimen that she would be better at the 145 range as opposed to the current 170ish.

I think the only sport that you would ever have clear winner of "who's the best" in any generation is Basketball, and we know the answer to that.

Whitlock is far too agenda-driven to take seriously. The fact is that we'll never know. If Serena had the focus of a Steffi Graf, she may have flamed out by now. I think she's done well for herself.

Good point. A lot of the players who came up wit Serena and Venus (such as Hingis, Henin, Clijster, even Davenport) are gone. Their breaks from the game and the fact that they do not overtrain and kill themselvs are why they are still on top at the ages of 28-30 (ancient for tennis players).
I would like to see Serena in better shape more consistently, but for real, she's won 3 of the last 4 grand slams, you cannot argue with those results.

Graf would beat Venus 60 to 70 percent of the time.
She and Serena would be a 50-50 match on most days, it will be a toss up. (Clay and Grass: Advantage Graf, Hardcourt: Serena)

On the grass or hard court, Venus would overpower Graf, as would Serena. When Graf came up against a stronger, more athletic player she struggled (Monica Seles). The Williamses are even stronger and more athletic.
I don't think it's up to the agenda-driven, attention-whoring Whitlock to determine what's best for either of the Wililiams sisters or anyone else. They've set out on an unconventional path and it works for them.
