Baldwin in the spring of 1963, as he’s driven around San Francisco to meet with members of the local African-American community.

Baldwin reflects on the racial inequality that African-Americans are forced to confront and at one point tries to lift the morale of a young man by expressing his conviction that: “There will be a Negro president of this country but it will not be the country that we are sitting in now.”

Goddamn I hope these immature mfkrs who have been conditioned to scream faggot a the drop of a hat and miss the message of a man who was fearless in his struggle for Black civil rights grow the fuck up.

I think Baldwin gets respect on here. I haven't seen many post disparaging him for being gay. Dude was very revolutionary and able to speak what most blacks consciously and subconsciously knew but didn't speak. One of my favorites.

Baldwin was Black first gay second. His priorities were in the right place unlike a lot of black gays today.
