It’s official. Ramen is the new black.

Weeks after Press Tea in the West Village launched the edible identity crisis known as the Ramenrrito (a ramen-stuffed burrito) Ramen Fries are set to debut.

Keizo Shimamoto, creator of the Ramen Burger - a mega hit at Smorgasburg last summer - is recreating the happy meal with his Asian-American hybrid side dish he plans to unveil at his new Crown Heights eatery Berg’n food and beer hall opening late July.

“Everyone thinks our ramen buns are fried, but they’re really not so I thought, why not try it out for the fries?” Shimamoto tells The News of the crunchy side dish he said was an obvious follow up to his signature Ramen Burger.

The owner of Ramen Co., Keizo Shimamoto with his new creation, Ramen fries.
The News got an exclusive first taste of the al dente order topped with scallions and served with Shimamoto’s secret ramen burger sauce and housemade spicy mayo. We soon found that if you fry it, they will come. Customers that is.

To craft the luscious lard fest, Shimamoto slices up a ramen bun into steak fry sized strips then double fries them to crispy perfection. Shimamoto says New Yorkers can get creative with condiments such as ketchup or even mayonnaise. But he does have one suggestion.

“They’re made to be eaten with a Brooklyn Brewery lager,” says the frankenfood genius of his favorite brew.

Keizo Shimamoto is reinventing the happy meal with his Ramen Burger and new Ramen Fries.
The ramen king is using his noodle in the kitchen. He’s crafted a soon-to-be launched fried chicken ramen burger and is working to perfect a ramen churro, which he says could rival the culinary masterpieces of Dominique Ansel, the Willy Wonka of hybrid pastries.
