There used to be just 2 forces, not counting the Coast Guard. Air Force split from the Army in 1947, I believe (used to be US Army Air Corps) but the Marines never truly fully split from the Navy. In fact, Marine Officers got to the Navy's Anapolis, and there are Marine SEALs who train and go to B.U.D.s with sailors

I'm a Marine veteran. As such, I think Jack Nicholson, from about 1:20 till 1:33 (emphasis on "faggoty") summed up how Marines feel about their Navy brethren. Other than that, Navy peeps were cool: They're good hosts. Sea-duty was the shit. I had a Marine punch me in the face in a bar one time and all hell broke loose, Marines on one side and Navy on the other we tore that club up, I had done nothing or even said anything he just ran up with that drunk shit cause some girls was sitting near us, that same Marine gave me my first car when I did not have transportation and needed it to get back and forth when I moved off base....I have enormous respect for Marines and I just give you guys a hard time because I know you can take it just like you can bring it.
