ISIAH'S NON-BLACK JURY
5 WOMEN, 3 MEN HEARING CASE

September 16, 2007 -- Jurors in the sensational sexual-harassment trial that pits Knicks coach Isiah Thomas and Madison Square Garden against fired executive Anucha Browne Sanders have wildly different backgrounds and levels of interest in sports, but share one thing in common: none of them is African-American.
The panel of five women and three men have already gotten an earful from Sanders, who detailed years of alleged abuse she endured while working for the Knicks as the team's only female vice president in testimony that is set to continue tomorrow.
They also heard a new allegation from Sanders, who for the first time accused Thomas of directing his venom not only at women, but whites as well.
"I don't give a f--- about these white people," Thomas allegedly snapped when Sanders asked him to sign letters to season-ticket holders, the majority of whom were white.
The jurors range in age from 37 and 60
They all promised to put aside star power, team loyalty and all biases in evaluating the evidence - and to follow Manhattan federal Judge Gerard Lynch's instruction to stay away from watching and reading about sports.
Juror No. 3, a homemaker and daughter of a college-football referee, said she could manage despite living in a household of sports fans.
"I don't follow the sports page," the juror said. "My husband does, but we don't talk about it."
Juror No. 4, a maintenance man from The Bronx and a Knicks fan, joked that he could make the sacrifice with one exception.
"The only thing I would worry about would be October for the Yankees. That I would have to watch," he said.
He also promised to put aside strong views on Thomas' ability as a coach, telling Lynch, "He evaluates talent well, but he hasn't done so well with the team.
"It is a job. You have to do your job as best you can. This is a totally different case. I would have to be fair," he said.
Juror No. 7, a psychologist whose work takes him to Family Court, said he's a fan of basketball and tennis and typically reads the sports pages.
The trial has presented a different challenge for Juror No. 5, a school custodian who has appeared to drift in and out of sleep in the jury box.
Juror No. 6, a chef, said her father is a retired attorney for the National Labor Relations Board, but that she doesn't "even know which side of the fence he was on" because "he was intensely private" about his work.
Juror No. 1, a mother of three with an MBA from Columbia, said she is not a sports fan, while Juror No. 2, a mother of two, said she went to a Knicks game last year but prefers tennis and golf.
Juror No. 8, a retired teacher, and Juror No. 4 both admitted they had seen news coverage of the lawsuit, but said they could put aside what they had heard.
Legal experts had mixed feelings about the jury's racial makeup.
"I can't see any problem," said famed divorce lawyer Raoul Felder. "Both the parties are black. Even if you have a nitwit who's prejudiced on the jury, he'd be equally prejudiced."
But big-time defense attorney Ed Hayes said the non-black panel is "very unusual."
"I think that black men and black women often talk to each other in a very rough way, which white people might not be sensitive to," Hayes said.

This ""I don't give a f--- about these white people," testimony, and that comment about his feelings about a white man calling a black women a bitch probably sealed his fate.
Isiah didn't lose, the Garden/Jimmy Dolan did! Nobody seems to be reading the fact that Isiah IS PAYING NOTHING to this chick, the Garden and more importantly Jimmy Dolan are paying her! This is actually about the environment @ the Garden that Dolan allows to go on, not what happend/didn't happen between Sanders and Isiah.
People want to talk about that marketing budget but again, WHEN HAVE THE KNICKS EVER PLAYED WITHIN THEIR BUDGET SINCE THE DOLANS' TOOK OVER?!?
Her going over-budget is still indicative of the climate @ the Garden! The Knicks have been over-budget and paying the luxury tax on that for years and overpaying a steady bunch of bums and you're surprised that she would apply the same tactics in her job?!?
She kept receiving raises and high praise from her immediate boss for years and as such, a REAL reason to fire her should have been found AND documented! When I heard that the VP of Human Resources for the Garden didn't know what the EEOC laws where I knew that they already lost!
Everyone on this board needs to realize that her winning is a good thing for the common worker, that no obne can just up and fire you on a whim like Dolan did her. If he had only consulted his lawyers first they could've fired her LEGALLY and not had to worry about shit!
