Is this a good move for both parties?

Has he fallen that low on the coaching totem pole that he feels he needs to take this job? I doubt that FIU can afford to pay him top dollars so this seems like him trying to prove that he can coach. It will also serve as a great recruiting tool for FIU since all the good local players are sucked up by UM that is just a few miles away.

Disclosure: I'm an FIU alum

Isiah's coaching style always seemed to be a better fit on the college level. And he's proven that he knows talent. So he should do well there.

I'm curious to know who will fill out his supportive staff. Or will he inherit?

And with Coach Jarvis as close competition, this will be an interesting watch.

I wish him well.

Zeke has made some great draft pics over his career. He may not be the best GM but he definitely knows how to evaluate young talent.

Well, he learned the 'art' of losing (BIG TIME) and WINNING with the Detroit Pistons. The Knicks refined the 'art' of LOSING, but it's a whole different ballgame in college..especially at a small-time school like FIU.

I agree he should do well at recruiting good talent, but wil the losing cause him to implode and torch their basketball program?

I wish him luck. 5-years is a long time.

There is not much of a program there to speak of. Are you implying that there might be NCAA sanctions caused by his possible implosion?

Nah, just his personal problem with dealing with many losses.

According to NBC Miami--Sports, Isiah has agreed to relingush his first-years salary. That definitely helps the school's budget! In answer to Bravo's question...YES, it's a very good move, and helps both parties.

Isiah spoke spoke about how those persons having had the good fortune and skill of rising to the 'top' of their professions will often return to their beginnings to provide expertise and training to those just starting. In this case he's a very good fit.

Even if the Knicks were not paying him roughly $12M yearly NOT to be around Madison Square Garden, he'd still help those who need it. Remember, Zeke, grew up on the 'mean streets' of C-town. He knows what struggles are all about. He's walk-the-walk, so to speak. Fortunately, he had the benefit of a strong supportive family, especially his mother. Plus, he also had a good basketball teacher with Coach Bobby Knight at I.U.And we can't forget about the late Chuck Daly, during Zeke's Detroit Pistons tenure. Whatever your pesonal feelings about the former Pistons captain, should not preclude his a whealth of experience and knowledge.

The EIU "Golden Panthers" will benefit greatly.
