All I want to be able to do with my laptop is get on the internet, play movies and music and maybe burn music and movies, and some music production (reason, fruity loops, etc...). Is this a good one for that? What should I be looking for in a good laptop if this is not it?

Price range is from 800 to 1500 but I am willing to go a little over that for a top notch product. Let me know.

Yeah good specs and I see they have a similar model for cheaper: $449.99 HERE plus a good laptop buyer's guide on that site.

I guess its fine for most of what you want to do. The only thing that would bother me is that the processor is a Core Duo/Dual Core and not a Core 2 Duo. It may or may not make a difference to most people, but if you're going to be doing anything that requires a lot of processing power, like video editing, you will appreciate the boost in horsepower. I have edited audio before, but never anything involving mixing or editing mixes. I would suspect that that would be something that's processor intensive.

Also, these are good deals, but ultimately they are trying to get rid of older inventory.

I'd say go with a Macbook, but you seem like you want a screen larger than 13 inches. The Macbook Pros are out of your budget. Could get a 13 inch Macbook for 1299.00 and get Logic Express for 199.00, save up and then get the Logic Studio upgrade later, if you are serious about the music editing.

I saw a white Macbook on sale for $799 and was real tempted on getting it (pretty sure could sell it craigslist at that price next year) I really just bought the laptop I have now so no need for one.

Oh bet. I'm checking it out now.

If you're going to get Sony you should get a Laptop from the FW series which is the best you're going to get from Sony without getting a 19'' screen. The brand new FW-390s start off at $850.00USD but you can get the later model ones with The Core 2 Duo 2.00Ghz and 4 Gigs of ram with Vista 64 for close to $600.00 brand new.

It's a good system as long as Windoze doesn't come with it.

You are so right about that! Like who would seriously want to use an Operating System that is used by 94% of the world and compatible with about 90% of all Applications written? :dunno:

Still 799 after rebate at www.microcenter.com until 5/10/09

What I want to know is which laptop has the loudest built in speakers? I have seen an Aspire 6930 and a Toshiba model that had a subwoofer but there seems to be no way to tell other than in person.
