Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei used the chaos in Ferguson, Missouri, to launch into a Twitter rant against the United States for being a so-called enemy of human rights.
“Based on global statistics, US govt is the biggest violator of #HumanRights,” the Ayatollah’s official account tweeted to its 70,000 followers on Sunday. “Besides int’l crimes, it commits crimes against its ppl. #Ferguson”
Riots, looting and unrest continue in Ferguson more than a week after a white police officer shot and killed an unarmed black teenager during an altercation on Aug. 9. The predominantly black community was placed under a curfew for the second night in a row Sunday as Gov. Jay Nixon ordered National Guard troops into the area.
“Today like previous years, African-Americans are still under pressure, oppressed and subjected to discrimination. #Ferguson,” Mr. Khamenei continued. “In 1992 a popular uprising protesting the blatant oppression of black ppl couldn’t be subdued by the police so #army got involved. #Ferguson”
