But on a serious note, why are most presidents and/or VP's associated with being a lawyer or owning a JD? This trend is becoming alarming due to the manipulation the government is beginning to show from behind the curtain.

Melon...you don't think getting a JD is the best idea if you want to be involved in government and policy? since politicians (congressmen/senators) are supposed to be working for us, wouldn't you want our policy makers to be well trained in the law?

I'm not questioning the background. It is a good idea. But with everything that you don't see that involves the government one has to question why things are kept under wraps for so long. The people pulling the strings just might know the law well enough to circumvent it.

On the other hand, with all the corruption and the basis occupation/education is a lawyer, you have to wonder why type of government we would have if politicians all had undergraduate degrees in criminal justice and advanced degrees in say, the humanities, history, business administration, social work, english (although most do have undergrads in english), political science. The government is more than just about making and studying laws, it's about how to carry them out. The way some things happen here, (violations of the fourth amendment and more recently that saggy pants thing), you wonder sometimes if they forgot how to carry out a law and recognize the actions that come with it. In other words a real politician.
