Spike Lee is surprisingly surprised, because he wouldn’t think Tyler would honor him, because of his rudeness towards Tyler. As Michelle Obama said when they go low you go high. Look at God.

Spike has been a master of his trade and a trail blazer in his own right, but Tyler understands that allowing their differences to keep them separated is self defeating. My take is that Spike Lee has a low key resentment of Perry's success and Perry realizes this, and feels honored to show open respect for what Spike Lee's great legacy.
