....the premature retirement was brought on by a change in the pension rules voted by the NFL Owners. The coaches involved are the Offensive Coordinator, Tom Moore, and the Offensive Line coach, Howard Mudd. By leaving now, they will receive a 'lump-sum' payment, as opposed to later paymnents in smaller amounts, and subject to being frozen--as are the current benefits. It is feared that other coaches may join them in their departure. Especially those coaches with long tenure.

The pensions apply ONLY to non-football players (players' pensions are controlled by NFLPA).

So far 9-NFL frnachies are opting out of the current pensiopn plan. They are: 49'ers, Cowboys, Texans, Patriots, Jaquars, Bills, Saints, Falcons, and Cardinals. Inside sources say that the pension change idea or movement was spearheaded by Jerry Jones, in order to give the Owners "benefit flexibility".

I do blame them and I don't.

Why I blame them: these guys are not underpaid at all. Some make close to a million dollars a year. If you can't pay your bills and put money away for retirement... you've got a serious spending problem.

Why I don't: everybody is entitled to a pension, I think. If you're close to retiring and they're seriously considering lessening the amount of your pension... fuck it, get it while you can and be happy.

The Colts will be at best this year a 10 win team. They lost too much this offseason to be a serious threat in the AFC.
