In Search of a DSLR Nikon D5000; Anyone know of any good deals on this item?

I'm in search of a Nikon D5000, but cant see myself paying what i see advertised at JR.com for $849 (With the Kit; Meaning Lens). Me, and my partner have a website where it's catered to Dancehall life http://www.ZionTrainEnt.com and a second professional DSLR camera is needed. If anyone knows of a great deal out there, please post that up; in the meantime here is something for the mass. Thanks!!!!

Its a fairly new camera. Be a couple weeks before the price comes down.

You can always check ebay. i've never bought DSLRS on there though, just P&S

That's an entry-level DSLR and it's a new model, so if you don't want to pay $800+ your best bet would be go on CL or goto B&H Photo (there are a lot in NYC - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/) and buy a used older model.

skip over the D40.D60.and D5000

I have a D60 i wish I had just bought a D80 or waited for the D90
you will run into a lense shortcoming with anything under the D90
AF-S lenses are the only ones that autofocus on the D40,D60 and D5000

I was looking at the D60 just moments ago, and decided to go with the D5000 but since your saying that there is only one particular lense for autofocus, i may have to reconsider

the built in motor in the D90 lets you use a larger selection of Nikon lenses
the D40,d60 and d5000 dont have the autofocus motor so you would have to manually focus with non AF-S lenses and it sucks because you might miss a shot
the D90 also has HD video capabilities with ANY lense
gonna give my D60 to my nephew next spring when i get my tax return and get a D90

The kits give you 2 lenses but all you need is the Nikon 18-200mm VR and you should be set.

ok, the D5000 is an excellent camera for what it is, a beginner dslr.......if you don't plan on buying older lenses then the lack of focus motor shouldn't be an issue as all new Nikon lenses will have motors in them.....

personally if I was going that route, I'd get a D90..........
it's everything the D5000 is without the flip lcd, but has a built-in screw drive so you can use any nikon AF lens.......

the problem with both of those cameras or any nikon that isn't a Dxx/Dx.......is that they won't meter with ai/ai-s lenses(these are manual focus lenses), both of which are held in high regard by pro's as being some of Nikon's best glass ever made.........


so, my advice is.........if you don't need video and want the ultimate in flexability without breaking the bank.......look into a D200, best buy has specials on them for $599 from time to time.....or you can search the used market and spend less than that.....
otherwise save a little more and get a D90..
