Imagine that South Africa is predominately white.
The white settlers killed off almost all the original Africans there.
Then they imported South American slaves to work their farms and mines.
Over the years the South American slaves were freed and meshed into society somewhat.
South Africa's economy and world status was great.
So nice in fact that Africans from neighboring nations started coming over the border illegally to find work and live.
The South Americans are generally cool with Africans but the Africans have a lot of hostility towards them in areas closer to the border. Much of the hostility is based around the European enslavement of the South Americans and African colonization by European powers.
African immigrants want to be like those they perceive to be great- the whites.
The Africans start appealing to South Americans for help in their immigration issues.
The Africans mention the great leaders of the ex-slave population and try to find common ground and don't really address the fact that many Africans are hostile toward South Americans, even in their home nations.
Something kinda similar actually happened in regard to this during imperialist occupation of Africa. Importation of Asians was not uncommon. But the rest of the story never occurred. What do you think about the South Americans situation in the hypothetical? The Africans?
I had to look at our situation in the US like this. While I don't think we should leave, on a certain level I understand things from an aboriginal perspective. I do think the legacy of Spanish racism needs to be addressed before I can embrace all Latinos as brothers unilaterally. This doesn't mean I have beef with all Latinos. I treat people as they treat me, or better. But I do see a need for armed conflict with armed racist hispanics.
