Brock Lesnar, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s massive heavyweight titleholder, was forced to withdraw Monday from his highly anticipated Nov. 21 title defense in Las Vegas against Shane Carwin.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the news to Yahoo! Sports. White said Lesnar has been ill for more than three-and-a-half weeks and unable to train. With the bout at UFC 106 less than a month away, Lesnar was forced to postpone the title defense.

White said he does not believe Lesnar had the H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu.

The fight matched two of the biggest and most powerful heavyweights in the UFC. Lesnar (4-1), a former World Wrestling Entertainment star, was a junior college and NCAA Division I wrestling champion. Carwin is a former Division II national wrestling champion.

Both men weigh around 295 pounds and cut weight to make the heavyweight division’s 265-pound limit.

White said he is not sure when the fight will be rescheduled or if Carwin will still fight on the card.

“We’re still working everything out,” he said.

Carwin (11-0), who made several appearances in Los Angeles on Saturday to promote the fight, was clearly disappointed at getting the news.

“My heart just sank, as you can imagine,” Carwin said. “Hopefully, we’ll get it rescheduled soon.”

The co-feature at UFC 106 is set to be a light heavyweight bout between Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin, both among the company’s most popular fighters. That bout could be moved to main event status if White does not land a suitable opponent for Carwin for that date.

This is exactly why the UFC needs a Super Heavyweight division.

thats fucked up! brock got sick because he knew shane carwin was about to whoop his monkey ass and needs more time to get ready.

That's a lie. Brock doesn't cut from 295. Brock barely cuts any weight anymore now that he's lost his wrasslin muscles. Brock cuts from 275. Carwin has never even weighed in at 265, so he's not cutting anything.

I'm kinda glad because I'm sick of MMA after Shogun was robbed, this gives me a chance to take a sabbatical.

Yeah - that 295 # is exaggerated.

Just like Leroy said ... Brock's not having to cut in that he's a NATURALLY BIG 265'er, but isn't as huge as he was/needed to be when he was in the WWE. He's still massive though.

Whereas Carwin's the smaller fighter - but still a heavily-muscled cat, but he isn't anywhere near walking around at a clip under 300 though. Sounds like we're talking about SHAQUILLE O'NEAL-type weight numbers here ... not MMA dudes. And these guys are in the low 6' range ... at what ... 6'3"/6'4"? They're not skyscraper dudes.

according to UFC president Dana White and won't be fighting anytime soon.

White made the announcement after UFC 105 last night, saying "He's in a hospital up in North Dakota somewhere right now. He went to Canada and some bad stuff happened to him, so we've got to figure it out ... He doesn't want to talk about it publicly, but he's in bad shape. He's not well and he's not going to be getting well anytime soon.":eek::eek:

This is exactly why the UFC needs a Super Heavyweight division.

Actually I think they need two more divisions. A Super heavyweight division from 235 - 265 and a Mega heavyweight division from 265 - 300. The heavyweights could then be 205- 235

I wonder what is wrong with that dude, they making it sound bad. It is going to take him a while to come back. First he has to regain all his size and strength THEN get back into fight shape. This isn't like a 185lber getting sick and having to recover.
