A woman in Colorado is under arrest after allegedly luring a man into her home before subjecting him to hours of torture, according to court records.
Lauren Marie Dooley, 22, was arrested on Sept. 28 by the Colorado Springs Police Department after investigators said she kidnapped a man she met on Tinder, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Fox Colorado Springs affiliate KXRM-TV. The 21-year-old Black male victim, who was not named in the redacted reports, alleges Dooley choked and stabbed him before he could escape after five hours in captivity.
The investigation began around 5:45 p.m. after someone called 911 for an “unknown call-for-service,” the affidavit states. The victim was reportedly heard yelling on the call “because you cut me” and “you’re going to kill me,” which dispatchers relayed to officers on their way to the scene. The caller also heard the male say he’d bled “all over a bed.”
Police arrived at the E. Cache La Poudre Street address to find the victim naked in the parking lot. According to ABC Colorado Springs affiliate KRDO, the residence is part of The Hills apartment complex.
Upon a closer inspection of the victim, officers observed him bleeding from a laceration on his left arm and noted he was “actively backing away from the suspect,” later identified as Lauren Dooley.
Dooley, who had blood “smeared on her arms and hands,” according to the complain, was arrested on the scene.
Officers relied on the victim’s statement after Dooley invoked her right to remain silent. According to the male, he and Dooley had just met after connecting on the dating app Tinder. The complainant said he accepted Dooley’s invitation to go to her apartment before they began talking on her couch.
“Lauren then proceeded to take [victim’s] clothing off and perform oral sex on him,” per the affidavit. “She then used duct tape to bind [victim’s] wrists together and ankles together. [Victim] found it odd, but consented to it.”
However, the victim stated he withdrew consent after Dooley allegedly produced a kitchen knife and forced him into her bedroom.
Dooley allegedly “climbed on top of him” on her bed before cutting his shoulder and alternating between manual strangulation and ligature strangulation — in this case, a belt. At one point, she checked the man’s pulse via the carotid artery.
“Lauren began to become upset that [victim] was bleeding all over her bed, so she told him to get in the bathtub, which he complied with,” police wrote. “Lauren then ordered some food from DoorDash. When the delivery person arrived, Lauren told [victim], ‘if you scream or say anything, I’ll kill you.’”
Sometime later, the pair were back in Dooley’s bed, where the male waited for her to fall asleep, according to his complaint. After noticing she’d left the knife by his feet, he obtained the weapon and freed himself from the restraints.
On his way out, he accidentally bumped into a table, awaking Dooley from her sleep and prompting the victim to run outside and call 911.
Following a search of Dooley’s apartment, police found a kitchen knife near the bed, “several blood-soaked rags” and “blood all over the bathtub,” police wrote in the affidavit.
“Pretty shocking to know somebody that lives right around the corner is capable of doing this,” said Hills Apartments resident Lauri Gloria, according to KRDO. “It scares me. I mean, I saw the gentleman. He was cut pretty good, and to think that someone could do that is pretty scary.”
Dooley was charged with second-degree kidnapping, two counts of second-degree assault, menacing and false imprisonment.
“This is really unexpected,” Gloria continued. “All of our neighbors watch out for each other, so I hope nothing like this happens again.”
