Please go support this movie on Mother's Day 2011. It is actually worth your loot.

This movie puts the Tyler Perry bullshit to shame while catering to the same audience. I saw this on this past valentine's day at a pre-screening and it was actually quite good. it was intelligent, realisitic, funny and was quite watchable. i have seen this movie play out in real life a few times myself.

it was a good movie and it can hopefully show that black audiences don't need perry's buffoonery in order to be entertained.

if anything movies like this need the Men of our culture to go out and support. for real. this one deserves your dollars.

Perry's flicks are ass...

that doesn't make this flick any better though.

seems like most of these modern "black" flicks are poorly written & heavily rely on tired motifs/archetypes if not stereotypes.

it's sad...:smh:

is it a chick flick?

probably. But if I'm not mistaken, Megan Good is in a bikini in this flic.

yeah, technically it is a chick flick. but it isn't all sappy and shit. i just feel that we as a people need to support good black cinema instead of always catering to the lowest common demoninator.

and m. good is in a bikini. but there is alot of other eye candy as well. the lead actress has a couple of lingerie scenes that raised both my eyebrows.

Dude, isn't it abundantly clear that not everyone wants 'intelligent comedy'?

People laugh at what they can relate to. Ya'll call it lowest common denominator, without taking into account that not everyone finds TP's works offensive, and lcd.

I don't think TP's work is offensive. It's not intellectual comedy, but you have intelligent people who do enjoy it. It's why I look at Kat Williams' stand-ups on youtube, but then I also look at George Carlin's.

This reminds me a lot of the debates we have about dudes on BGOL that like 'fat women'. Dudes who like slender women obviously think they have superior tastes. Fine. But, I'm a cold-blooded country 'bama, raised in the sticks of South Carolina, so Meagan Good and Paula Patton in bikinis and lingerie, respectively, will not appeal to my backwoods tastes in women.

I used to like Tyler Perry's plays because I could relate to some of the comedy. Not to mention, while I'm no longer a Christian, I went to church more in my youth than the law should have allowed. At the same time he films were just horrible, so I stopped watching. Basically, I'm taking offense to the fact that something I used to watch somehow makes me the 'lowest common denominator'.

But, hey ...

...I accept who I am and where I came from. Call it what you will. My little rant will not change your opinion.

This is better than a T.Perry movie?Get the fuck out of here, this movie plays on the stereo-typical,over dramatic, dramatized black family structure.

You can't cover-up bullshit with more bullshit and try to convince people it's not bullshit...

sure you can...that's why these movies keep being funded & released...

they're safe ethnic representations. they don't threaten to expose the very same bullshit you're talking about...

since men dont generally go to see romantic comedies, it will be up to black women support this If the movie is good.

i will b there.. my gurl n i saw the previews.. looks to funny.. i will there.. mayb nott that weekend. Too crowded

It's probably a tad bit better than TP but when are we gonna have some 'think-outside-the-box' type shit??? These types of movies are about the equivalent of a chick-flick imo. Can we get a brotha (or sista) produce/direct a "black" Fight Club or Donnie Darko, sumin...Spike Lee should not still be the most diverse/unique black director in Hollywood after all this time.

on what are you basing your opinions about the content of this movie since it hasn't been released yet?

Exellent explanation.
I don't get all the heat that Perry takes. If you don't like his movies don't support them. Just like I don't like the Ameican Pie series, Harold and Kumar, Borat, Jackass or any number of stupid movies with a a predominately white cast so I don't go to see these films. I dont lambast their directors.

This shit looks exactly like a Tyler Perry movie. Why are these the only type of movies we can come up with? Is it because white folks will only fund this kind of shit or is it from a lack of ideas? Im thinking its the former :smh:

looks like it'll b good....mike epps gonna b a trip hopefully....meagan good,paula patton...........................................................

paula patton

It's a TD Jakes film. :dunno:

Shhhh.... don't let voyuer's secret out. :ssshhh:
TD Jakes movies are absolutely no different than Tyler Perry's in terms of appealling to the same Black Christian female crowd. "Jesus saves" is beating you over the head with a thinly veiled hammer, only Reverend Jakes is not subtle at all with his morality plays. "Woman Thou Art Stupid" and "Not Easily Bullshit" would and should have both gone str8 to DVD without the good Reverend's endorsement.

Don't be fooled - all of voyuer's hinting about how "tasty" Meaghan Goode is is a classic bait and switch. Shame on you!

Three separate threads bashing Tyler Perry and two of them you are promoting this film.

Have you seen the screener ?

Did you work on this movie ?

What is your connection.

this is not one of those types of films. there was no heavy christian hand in the script. seriously.

Thanks to the OP for the heads up and the inside info......Always the same debate every time a TP movie comes out...why are we continually expecting ALL Black folks to like or love, every TP movie...its your dollar, and your choice to support it, or not support it...Do ALL White folks love every Woody Allen flick, or John Waters flick?...
