Cross explained that the show certainly never felt resolved, and that Luther would never be finished hunting down evil in London. “It can’t be over, can it? There’s so much we don’t know. So much unfinished business,” he said in a statement. “In the end, we picked up the phone to some old friends and asked if they’d like to find out what happens next. It turns out, they would. So that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to find out what happens next.”

There’s no news on what “old friends” might be joining Elba for the new season, but the actor expressed his enthusiasm for a return to the character. “I am thrilled that we have been able to bring it all together. I look forward to putting the coat back on,” he said

Production will begin early next year on the four-episode fifth season; no premiere date has been announced. Elba can next be seen in August in the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, and in November in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Luther is a British crime drama programme starring Idris Elba as the title character, DCI John Luther.[1] Written by Neil Cross, the first series, comprising six episodes, ran in May and June 2010. A second series of four episodes aired on BBC One in June and July 2011. A third series was commissioned in 2012, comprising four episodes aired in July 2013.[2] A two-episode fourth series was broadcast in December 2015. A fifth series has been announced with filming due to start in early 2018.[3]

Elba has received critical acclaim for the role of John Luther, and has been awarded a Critics’ Choice Television Award, Golden Globe Award, NAACP Image Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance.[4][5] The series has also received eleven Primetime Emmy Award nominations in various categories, including four nominations of Elba for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie.

Good shit

but a season is like two episodes
A real season? Not that two episode bullshit that was season 4?
That's just the way it is in the UK. There tends to be a maximum of 6 episodes per season, 8 if you're lucky. That's because there's usually one or two writers.

In America, it used to be more TV based than content based. Meaning they would stretch a season for more than necessary with a bunch of writers, especially when it came to advertising.

A show that should be 8 episodes would've doubled to 16 just to please the networks and advertisers and to fill up TV air time.

Of course that changed with HBO and now with netflix.

My favorite show on TV (that's not GoT). BRING. BACK. ALICE!!!!!!

And while we're talking Brit shows, we need another Sherlock season... and another Top Boy season. Those Brits dont fuck around with the dramas

It's a tie between this and Sherlock, but you're right they need to bring Alice back. She makes the show better...imo
