I Retired At 39 And Live On $185K A Year In Dubai

It works when those other countries are cheap and that salary can last a long time.

It's a smart decision.

Congrats to him, I hope he likes it there.

Was in Dubai for 3 and half months last year, living in the Marriott Marquee hotel (company dime). From what I saw there, yes.. you could absolutely live comfortably on $100K USD. Yes, there is plenty of pussy there (for free and for sell) because there are soo many expats and tourists there partying every weekend.
This all said, you definitely have to budget your money because the party scene will suck you in. The nightlife can be insanely expensive if you get carried away. Drinks are shit and pricey.

Dubai was not for me though. One month in I was tired of it. Like staying on the Vegas strip too long. Then shit starts to get monotonous. With the biggest issue being, unless you speak Hindi, Arabic, or Swahili shit starts to turn into white noise. Almost everyone CAN and do speak English in the work setting, but out in town away from the tourist shit, they speak their own languages.

Its hot as FUCK! Had my ass over their wearing tactical suits in 115 degree heat. Of course, it IS the desert, so you have to expect it off tourist season.

I was there when that shit flooded.. Five star hotels leaking water like crazy (they don't build to our standards, they have gaps because of heat expansion). Shit was wild...

Don't believe the hype about "no taxes" its bullshit. They just call it something else, but you will pay it monthly if you purchase property there.

Plenty of money to be made if you want to open a tech or finance business there (BTW, you WILL have to hire an Emirati, and pay them to do nothing if you want to maintain your business license).

Some of the most delicious foods I ever had. Even all of the American fast foods places (KFC, MD's, BK, Dominos, Hardees of all things, Krispy Kreme, TGI Fridays, etc..) there tasted 1000% better than the bullshit we get here because of the strict laws on meat quality. Hell Denny's tastes like Ruth Chris over there. The only thing that fucked with me was the scarce pork (I like bacon) and the eggs there didn't taste right.

Alcohol.. You can buy it on the hotel properties and clubs, but you need a license to buy it at the stores in Ras Al Khalmah (next UAE state over) couple hours drive. Or you can get a hookup and buy basically black market. EVERYTHING is for sale over there... Except recreational drugs unless you are rich and in the inner circles, otherwise don't fuck around.

A lot of pros (delivery services there are bar none), gas is cheap...They do NOT play when it comes petty crime. They will arrest any and everybody for stealing (Floyd Mayweather got detained at the airport while i was there..one of his crew "forgot" to pay for $30K watch he was trying on in Dubai Mall). But shit is extremely safe over there crime wise... There are a lot of cons too (driving there is crazy as fuck during the work week due all the Indians and Paki drivers)..fucked around had a cab driver one night tell me he was Taliban...proceeded to tell me about how is wife is not allowed to leave the house or talk on the phone until he is there (crazy shit to have your driver tell you he is Taliban). Not an abundance of Black Americans over there, so when they hear you talk, the first thing they ask is if you were in the military, and if you were in Iraq or Afghanistan, so you have to be on swivel with that.

Going back for six weeks in March for another assignment, will see if the casino they broke ground on before I left last June has made much headway. They are going to build three of them there. Gambling in a Muslim country...Just goes to show you the power of money to corrupt.
