I never realized just how many people dont have emergency funds

With many workplaces closing down, tons of people are on social media complaining about not being able to pay rent.
I know everyone's situation is different, but I didn't realize how many people are one missed check away from losing it all.
People on twitter and FB posting their cash app names asking for donations to keep them afloat for 14 days.

Im lucky enough to have a certain type of job that makes it easy to save plus my girls check on top of that. We're good without both of our checks for at least six to eight months.maybe more with belt tightening.i thank my parents for that discipline.

I’m still BMF (Blowin Money Fast) like a mutha fucka.

I got a savings 401k and stocks but I do have short term disability insurance tho. Learned from the last government shut down. That’s the only resource I have. And that will only cover most of my rent and a little bit of groceries. But no emergency liquid cash I could whip out and spend all willy nilly.

My job is giving us admin leave tho so we can have 14 days of paid leave and benefits maybe more on a case by case basis.

Fuck you money is so essential to my peace of mind. If my life is dependant on what some asshole in a higher position thinks of me I start to think shit that gets people locked up. OP is dead on. A lot of that social media flossing has turned to fear the last week. Folks with no cash saved and no credit because of bad debts, repos, etc. I was broke during the last recession and it was a scary place to be; literally got down to my last $200 and didn’t have a job for a few months until fortune changed. I make it a point to keep 6 months of e-funds in a high yield online saving account AND enough credit lines open (HELOC, credit cards) to hopefully get thru most “shit is hitting the fan” situations.

It’s all for not if you don’t have good health though. And a lot of these younger fools are about to find out the hard way that the YOLO life will fuck them over even more in a crisis.
